Today Anglo American are holding a shareholder meeting where they will vote on the merger with Teck Resources, which would see their HQ shift to Canada.

We’ll be at the meeting to raise our concerns about this move enabling Anglo to evade accountability for the harms of its mining operations.

Anglo American must be held accountable for 100 years of harm in South Africa. The company’s disinvestment from the country and proposed merger with Teck Resources (which will be voted on tomorrow) put this in serious jeopardy.

On Monday, we heard powerful testimony from Jaime Borda, Estela Rojas, Lucio Flores & Beatriz Cortez on the immense damage being done to their communities as a result of mining in Peru.

The event conveyed the urgency of resistance to extractivism, to defend the life & health of people & our planet.
