We don’t appreciate Jared Harris enough. He does not seem to care if 1,000,000 or 100,000,000 people watch a show or movie. He always respects and elevates the material.

@kermodemovie.bsky.social Mark, been listening to this week’s Take 2, just heard your reference to John Peel introducing your band. Presume you are aware this is on YouTube, but in case you aren’t, enjoy! youtu.be/7tKC6DqnV0I?...

Cheers from Lexington, KY, home of the Cocaine Bear.

“Hank, why are you spending so much time defending the freaking /minecraft movie?/“

Actually, I’m not defending anything, I am attacking the practice of dumping buckets of jaded misery on moments of goofy joy and I will absolutely die on that hill.

@simonmayo.bsky.social As the sole, publicly-professing member of the Vanguard in Kentucky (see iwittr.com), I feel it is my duty to pass along a story about basketball and Weetabix. Here’s wishing the Take team have their own Weetabix (or other energy supplying breakfast) before this week’s pod.

@joesonka.lpm.org do you think they’ll call it a night before the Cayuts play?

If you’re upset at Severance S2, you would have never survived Twin Peaks: The Return.

I’m glad we get more Pantheon. It’s excellent. I was afraid Season 2 would be condemned to the waste heap for unreleased tax write-offs.

So I ordered a 21 year old film
magazine from Japan, because I love Sofia Coppola and Lost in Translation. I wonder if it would interest @johnaugust.bsky.social to see the Japanese language ads for Big Fish, including what appears to be a fold out Big Fish-themed Game of Life.

The Gorge is a dumb Annihilation with romantic elements. How did we even get here? Is streaming the end of everything?

Love these actors and they do their best, but the script is woof.

Apple should stop making movies. Put all that money in more fantastic shows.

I’m finally playing Breath of the Wild, and I’m so jealous of this little iPhone thing Link carries around.

It gives him superpowers? I turn on my iPhone and it just makes me depressed.

I watched Conclave last night and I feel torn. It looked sumptuous and the actors gave riveting performances. But the plot was more page-turner than plausible. A good, theatrical thriller, elevated by Tucci, Fiennes, Lithgow, et al.

I watched Kurosawa’s Chime yesterday. It’s exceptionally eerie. I will watch it again sometime to see what details I missed. But ultimately it was a good short film. I can’t wait to see his next feature-length film. Also, the official method to watch Chime is ridiculous.

Here’s where I am in my John Carpenter fandom: renting a TV movie that aired in 1979. Lauren Hutton and Adrienne Barbeau. Maybe I have a soft spot for 70s TV, but I love everything about this.

La Chimera charmed me. The narrative meanders but that is part of the allure. Beautifully shot with humor and whimsy. A delight. Wander with Josh O’Connor through Alicia Rohrwacher’s love letter to her home and her people in the 1980s. Worth a watch on Hulu. I want to see more Rohrwacher.

La Chimera is like the wildest episode of The Durrells in Corfu. Not entirely sure who all these women are, but Larry is in way over his head this time.
