Happy feast of the kings, Dia de los Reyes! Feast of the epiphany! It marks the end of holiday season for my family. Today we’ll take down all the decorations & rest the holiday lights until Valentine’s Day.

Wrote my 1st novel , NIGHTSEER, after DMing my high school D&D group & getting frustrated they kept ruining my plans. I took the world I’d created & wrote my own high fantasy meets heroic fantasy. Think Tolkien meets Robert E. Howard at a magic school. Published some short stories set in world, too.

I started to write down goals for the new year, but even though I knew what they were I just kept stopping. In the end, I only wrote one thing. FINISH THE BOOK! That’s it the most important thing and I am so damn close.

Death Wish Coffee.

My new rule for library books is I can only check out as many books as I return. These three in & three more out. Yes, the rule comes from me checking out so many books I got embarrassingly overdue on several books. 🤦🏻‍♀️🙃📕📚

Day started at 74F. It’s now 60F and the temperature continues to fall. 59F since o started typing this. It’s supposed to be in the 20Fs by night’s end. Even for Missouri, USA this is crazy weather.

Happy Saint Stephen’s Day! I usually talk about making sure the birdfeeders are filled because it’s winter but it’s almost 70°F here so we are putting sugar water out for the bees that are coming out of hibernation when there are no flowers for them to feed on.

All the presents have been opened, wrapping and ribbon cleared away. Time to snuggle down for a long winter’s nap in the 60F weather. Merry Christmas, Happy Yule from our house to yours.

What do you train in Filipino martial arts on Christmas Eve? Archangels, of course.

Christmas/Yule Eve calls for a special mug. One that makes me smile every time I see it.

Double sword Villabrille style tonight at Filipino Martial Arts. Blade work always clears my head. Led me to finally finish the chapter that had been frustrating me all day.

It’s going to be over 60F for five days here when it should be freezing in St. Louis, Missouri USA. Warmest Christmas I’ve ever seen here. I just heard a bird give its spring song. Hibernating bees, and other insects will wake up, and there will be no flowers for them to feed on. #globalwarming

Was fighting with a scene last night. I stayed at my desk trying until I was exhausted. Went to bed feeling defeated. Woke next morning knowing exactly how to write the scene. Lesson relearned. When it’s not working let my subconscious have time. I’m writing ahead of my muse.

Rigorous has no, e in it. For all my fellow dyslexics. I am also a New York Times #1 best selling author with forty books published. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t, because if you want it badly enough, yes you can.

One pendulum, two tarot books, and Runes for today’s meditation. Clarity and inner peace were hard fought.

Mug for today from HEARTS START POUNDING. One of my fav murder/spooky podcasts. Still reading through The Cat Who books by Lilian Jackson Braun & started DAILY RITUALS - How Artists Work by Mason Currey.

Agatha scouts my tea as I read, The Cat who Went Underground by Lilian Jackson Braun. When I first read the series years ago I was so allergic to cats I thought I’d never have 1 of my own. 20 years of shots & my doctors ok & now I have 4. Happy #caturday

Owls - “… their heads are full of optic nerves & murder. There’s no room for anything else.” I love this so much.
When I volunteered at the Austin Nature & Science Center 300 years ago, this was phrased to me as "their heads are full of optic nerves & murder. There's no room for anything else."
Me to same owl handler: "Owls are super wise, right? They read loads of highbrow Russian literature and stuff, don't they?"

Owl handler: "No, they actually have very tiny brains, due to the hugeness of their eyes. In reality they are one of the thickest animals you could ever meet."

I just told our 4 cats that I was going to get a dog because they were loyal! Why did I yell that? Because the cats have abandoned me in my office so that I am writing without a pet of any kind. I have written all my books with a pet at my side from birds to snakes, dogs and now cats.

Filipino martial arts tonight! I specialize in kali which is weapons, but I also do a lot of double sword.
December 10, 2025 at 11:58 PM
3 pages! I thought about trying to force myself to do one more page so it would be 4, but I am wiped out. If I push tonight, I won’t make my page count tomorrow. Rest is part of the creative process, not the enemy of productivity.
December 9, 2025 at 2:38 AM
4 pages today, but unlike the 5 I got two days ago today’s pages weren’t done in a rush of inspiration. They were done painstakingly 1 page at a time with promised breaks in between. Like cuppa tea, read for 5 minutes, stretch, then next page.

To celebrate book 10, the entire Merry Gentry series is getting gorgeous new covers! Keep an eye out at your favorite book stores and tag me when you see them.
December 5, 2025 at 2:59 AM
The last bit of copyedits on the tenth Merry Gentry novel took up most of the writing day, so no new pages on the current book. I can’t wait for you to read the new Merry!
