My teen's high school sends home food each week with students who need it- about 10 families.

I'm a baker, mainly sourdough & limited by using my personal oven and fridge to proof and bake bread.

What would you want coming home in the bag if it were you (assuming food allergies weren't involved)?

Do I like it when I find typos in my work? No, but on the upside- at least people will know it wasn't written by ChatGPT.

Bath day for my dogs = they are clean and smell amazing. I am damp and smell like wet dog.

Me: Why doesn't my nail polish make it 24 hours?

Also Me: Pulling weeds and digging in the dirt on a Saturday morning.

Just me and everyone in the grocery store walking around singing to ourselves this morning.

Have you eaten enough protein to adequately compartmentalize the horrors today?

Politicians are masters of baby birding complex problems into mush that will fit on a bumper sticker.

We *all* wish the solutions to problems were simple. They're not.

Disinformation is not whatever information you happen to disagree with. People. This is why we can't have nice things.

The (thunder rolls) Hour of Despair.
we have a rule at our house that if it is past 9pm and you are having feelings, the only thing you are allowed to do is have a snack and go to bed, so anyway, I will be having a snack and going to bed!!

I'm currently a "No" on Prop 50.

You know how they're *asking* us if we'll give the government the power to redistrict/gerrymander/potato/po-tah-to? Texas didn't need to ask. I'd rather not see the people in California disempowered that way.

There's no way this would be temporary.
October 14, 2025 at 2:02 AM
Okay Californians- Are those of us choosing to vote Yes on Prop 50 doing so knowing that there is *no* way this will actually be temporary?

Why are we not all taking a collective break from dusting during October? Cobwebs are free Halloween decor.

We're all walking each other home and all that, but can you chew a little quieter?

"Friday night baby!", she whispered to herself as she went to bed at 10.

Now that we've established that the news is pretty much a curated echo chamber, where are we finding out what's actually going on?

I'm down to @npr.org @underthedesknews.bsky.social . Solid options, but I would love more reporting that is factual and leaves room for people to *think*.

So we've figured out that they're going to deploy the National Guard to blue city after blue city until one side or the other gets spooked, reacts violently, and gives the President an excuse to order them to use lethal force, right?

Is there a term for watching and reading things that pattern match with whatever the current societal shitshow is?

During Covid that looked like a deep dive into books and documentaries about the 1918 pandemic.

More recently? A re-watch of The Man In The High Castle.
October 6, 2025 at 10:52 PM
Can we all agree that *IF* the National Guard were actually needed in Chicago, 500 troops would not be enough? Chicago. Does. Not. Play.

She said:

"I don’t need you for that.”
"I can be broke and miserable by myself."

and walked off like the credits were rolling.

Intently listening to a conversation between two women where I'm working.

They're discussing how curiosity is good for our health on a societal level. It's inherently humbling. It draws people out to participate in the world.

How would you approach your curiosity if you treated it like a muscle?
June 13, 2025 at 5:50 PM
I tell ya- sitting at my dining room table watching my folks catch up on the news about the nearly 5000 National Guard and Marines in or on their way to LA.

It's a massive Kent State flashback for them.

History rhymes. Just look at anyone who remembers to see the echoes.

Which kind of people pleaser are you:

The "I'm highly anxious and spin out the moment I realize I don't want to do the thing" kind?

or

The "I can't say no without going into a doubt spiral about whether I'm a good person if I don't say yes" kind?

Hear me out, near sighted Southern Californians: May Gray? June Gloom?

That's when we save biiiig money by wearing our glasses instead of contacts.
