"Frink’s a compulsive pickpocket and occasional burglar.”

“Both perfectly respectable occupations on my home planet. Most people in my family run pyramid schemes or email frauds. How was I supposed to know that on other planets you’re not allowed to steal houses?”

They were in the middle of a screaming argument when he grabbed her and kissed her passionately. Jay knew Sue would squeal with #delight and admit her undying love.

"What the hell?" She shoved him away and smacked him with the nearest item, a hoagie. Shredded onions dripped down his face.

“And there are other improvements you need to make," the Counselor continued. “Jupiterans, you haven’t made a good holofilm in fifty of your years. Plutonians, stop calling yours a real planet. You’re not fooling anyone. And, Earthlings, where do I start?”

New Year, New Background!

I felt it was time for a little overhaul of the graphic, and what better time to do it than on January 1st?

The #WIPSnips word for January 1st is "begin"

Happy New Year!

"The Space-Faring Moron’s Guide to Common Science Fiction Plot Devices" looked well-thumbed. I pulled it down and scanned the introduction.

"You’re space-faring. You’re a moron. You should have stayed home."

Not a promising beginning.

I was going to try to say…something about the year behind us and the year ahead but I couldn’t think of anything better than this post I have thought of often over the past challenging year.
A soft, small, hopeful thing.

Beau Dangere, a man of such good looks, warmth, intelligence, and charisma that it must have unbalanced the universe. To even it out, there had to be some unbelievably ugly, dumb, and mean man at the other end of the galaxy, or maybe in another timeline.

“You know my ex calls me Jam-it, right? He has a big mouth.” Which was nowhere near as attractive as Beau’s mouth.

“Want to try another end?”

My face warmed. “What?”

“A round of curling,” he said. “They call it an end.”

Thread for writers
This set of observations is produced by my scrolling Reddit and otherwise listening to people talk about "how to write."

A) there is no requirement that any of your characters has any sort of "arc" let alone a redemption.

B) there is also no requirement that your fiction has a plot.

Also, congratulations everyone who made something this year. A comic, a song, a film, a novel, a painting, a poem, a short story, a sculpture, crochet, embroidery, whatever it is. In this era of slop and theft, if you *make* something you are a shining jewel and I am so grateful for you.

Dylan needed #air after the negotiations had broken down once again. And when he said that to himself, what he really meant was he needed to fly. To get in Magpie and simply head out in a direction and not look back.

What was their negotiate? Help stop the eradication of humankind, or not.

It just went on and on. The #struggle. The fight to live. To exist. it weighed upon Dylan, preyed upon him every night, where dreams of glittering, brief explosions had transplanted any peaceful dreams he had before, if he had any.

And, in the mornings, the nightmares were all too real.
