Mother, writer, veteran, reluctant Floridian. It's tough out there, so please be kind. Work in Janus Literary, Versification, Roi Faineant, Profane Journal, and elsewhere.
One good thing to come out of the absolute shitshow that is our country is that I'm doomscrolling far less and reading for pleasure far more. I'm even working on a micro that was gathering dust.

When all else fails, I focus on small pleasures. Today, it's sitting in my car with the windows down, a DD coffee, and a lovely morning breeze.

Good Lord, I wish men would stop commenting on women's smiles.

Is it more of an evolutionary advantage to have empathy or to be devoid of empathy?

I can't concentrate on work today because our president is insane.

I ate a baloney and pickle sandwich for dinner three nights this week, and it was glorious.

I'm not much for selfies as I'm generally unphotogenic, and simply not into selfies, but I like the grainy, diffuse look of this one that I took several years ago. Taken for a much younger man who broke my heart. Silly me.

I've been grappling lately with the sentiment that you can't go home. Too much has changed. I've changed. Everyone I left behind has changed. But can I find belonging in the natural geography? In the Catskill mountains, in the Hudson River, in the change of seasons? All I know is this longing.

I'm sure at least some of you know I spent the last week in the hospital. Here's the story and how you can help.

Short morning conversation at work in deep red Florida:
Dems want to cut Social Security

I'm committed to staying informed, but refuse to be consumed by news of horrible people doing horrible things (of which there is an endless supply). I will find my solace in nature, reading, and writing.

I'd like to create an "Authors of Small/Indie Press Books 2024-2025" starter pack. Is that you? If so, please reply here. Also, if you don't mind reposting this for visibility, I'd appreciate it! #writingcommunity #indiebooks #indieauthors #booksky

There's a kid in my neighborhood who's recently started playing his sax outside. He does not play well. It's 9:47pm. Whyyyyyy?

There's been a definite surge in energy on this platform since the election. I see the writing community reconstituting itself here, and I'm so ready for that.
