More fantastic silk embroidered globes from the West-town School, West Chester, Pennsylvania, c. 1800–1843. There are about 40 surviving examples and "All globes illustrated are made with raw wool, linen, and silk, and are approximately 5 1/2–6 inches in diameter."

Ok, one last great find of the day. This one actually relevant to my book. Apparently they taught lace making like the collars that I feature in my book at the school that the Hendricks girls attended!!

Did you know that Louis Vuitton made miniature trunks and their contents for dolls in the 19th century?? Apparently these trunks and their contents were a thing during the Victorian era, and I am there for it.

Strange but fascinating find of my research trip is that Miriam Gratz Mordecai, daughter of Alfred Mordecai and Sara Ann Hays (whom I wrote in The Art of the Jewish Family) attended Emma Willard’s school in Troy in from 1857-1861 while her father was stationed at the arsenal across the river.

Had an amazing research day studying the diary of Maria Tillman at the Hart Cluett Research Library and Museum yesterday in Troy, NY. Maria kept an illustrated diary from her years at Mrs. Okills girls academy in NYC. House museum was owned by classmate’s family
