We say the government is failing to run this country well, like they are simply doing a bad job. But clearly the sheer persistence of failure means it isn't failure but a choice: to keep the many powerless, to make them suffer for being powerless, to empower the few at the expense of the country.

My whole life, advocating war has been fed to me as “the adult position,” akin to drinking your coffee black or reading the business section of the newspaper. Let’s be very clear — war is the childish nonsense of impulsive destructive idiots playing baby-brained video games with real human lives.

There's a Napoleon quote in the article I just linked that says we can understand a person by what the world was like when they were 20. I have wondered about how we are shaped by the world when we were born. Exploring mine made sense.
