So weird to see colleges promoting their USNWR grad school rankings today like grad students aren’t being disappeared by their government.

Oh my God. The email contains an implied threat that any student who doesn’t immediately leave might be sent to El Salvador.

/technically it says “countries other than their countries of origin,” but the context right now, given everything going on, makes the threat clear.

A few years ago I visited the National Museum of African American History & Culture with my grandparents. When we stepped out of the building my grandmother kept repeating the words “I lived it. I lived it. I lived it.”

She’s still here. That history is still in her bones. You can never erase that.

Academics, do you have a plan for when ICE is at your classroom or office door? Sure, these are private spaces and they can’t technically enter without permission. But do you have a plan to protect your students? Or just expect them to get disappeared when class/meeting is dismissed?

I think everybody in academia should be thinking hard about what their red lines are.

so much of teaching is teaching students that they are worth taking seriously, that they should take themselves seriously, that the world is in their hands, that they are up to its challenges
