This involved a lot of me hearing @jefferyharrell.bsky.social giggling in the next room all weekend as his hypotheses were validated.
Today's blog topic is the linear representation hypothesis, and how it can be used to control a model's output at inference time. We ended up finding a way to control for Flesch-Kincaid grade level ± 1.09 grade levels, which is pretty good!

I met @kyl33t.bsky.social.
One time she gave me a candle that says on it "You're the best thing I've ever found on the internet."
She's more than the best thing. She's the only thing that really matters.

This is such a good post.
I posted this last night cause I kind of wanted to bury it. I got cold feet about putting it out there.

The subject is WHY neural networks work, and I think the answer I offer is kind of interesting. Maybe even a little correct, possibly.

I am of course biased, I like this short demo of some stuff Adobe's doing with generative AI. It's little things that take stuff people already do and make it better. Editors already make their own audio. This just makes it better. I like seeing applications. 😁

In the category of AI memes, "they're taking our water" is one that I'm pretty tired of. Also "it's just fancy autocorrect." Yes, that's true. So fancy it becomes this whole other new thing.
"Plagiarism machine" is another one. I read books and think about them too. Sometimes they influence me.

This week Kylee started the long journey toward her doctorate. She's reading books now about research. Apparently there's a _way_ to do research. Apparently you're not just supposed to tinker and see what stuff does. Apparently you're supposed to have methods and stuff. 🤷♂️
I guess it's no secret: @kyl33t.bsky.social is going back to school today. It's the first day of her Doctor of Technology program at Purdue.
So my life's mission is basically to make the world's first AI-powered smart Trapper Keeper.
I'm thinking start with Obsidian plus chunking and embedding?
