I am thankful for my WG within @cssn.org where I presented some early thoughts regarding this research that's now been published in @environmentalpol.bsky.social

But this is a society that must be ignorant about its immorality, and conveniently forget about the systems of exploitation, environmental degradation, gender inequality, racism, and global inequal exchange which upholds it. (4/4)

I here argue that anti-reflexivity is broader than just opposition to environmentalism. Far-right nostalgia is often focused on the 50s and 60s and idolises a society closely resembling what Ulrich Bech described as first modernity. (3/4)

In the article I argue that far-right climate obstruction can be understood as anti-reflexive acts of refusal to reclaim the ignorance of nation-industrial modernity. Revisiting early work on climate denialism and anti-reflexivity (by e.g., Riley Dunlap, Aaron McCright, and Peter Jacques) (2/4)

Very pleased to see this article finally out: Far-right fossil fuel ignorance: the nostalgia of national-industrial modernity (1/4) doi.org/10.1080/0964...
Far-right fossil fuel ignorance: the nostalgia of national-industrial modernity
Far-right climate change obstruction has been widely noticed in the scholarly literature, and both material and ideational factors have been recognised as playing a part in climate policy backlash....

January 28, 2026 at 3:10 PM

January 26, 2026 at 12:15 PM
January 26, 2026 at 9:38 AM
January 26, 2026 at 9:38 AM

Holy wow, +3.5 ppm CO₂ last year, up from +2.4 ppm average the past decade, and +0.6 ppm in the 1960s.

It gets scarier the closer you look at it. All this is a stress test for the planet, and it's buckling.

Two big reasons for the massive increase: wildfires, and the ocean sinks are shutting down.

What's beyond vested interests? Can we use the concept of countermovemement in more ways to understand climate obstruction? @kvowles.bsky.social and I think with a common but perhaps underused concept to understand reactionary climate politics in Sweden. @cssn.org

Israel has announced it's building a concentration camp in Gaza.

Imagine seeing this news and deciding you should aim your fire at the few politicians speaking out, rather than condemning the crime.

About 1500 of the approx. 2300 people that will have lost their lives across 12 European cities last week would still live, if it wasn't for our burning of oil, coal and gas. If we care about the right to life, we need to stop burning fossil fuels. www.imperial.ac.uk/grantham/pub...
