I welcome the Governor’s 30-day amendment to authorize the closure of up to five state prisons over the next year and look forward to passing bills like Treatment Not Jail so that our criminal justice system actually works towards repair, and not toward an unjust cycle of systemic violence.

I support the right of public sector workers to strike, but the demand of the correctional officers to repeal the HALT Act is a non-starter. While the economic & overtime conditions for the officers are not ideal for any job, the strike is designed to uphold a racist, anti-poor carceral system. 1/2
