The Star Spangled Banner is awfully hard to sing — I think this may be a strong contender for our new national anthem.

Writing the ALT text for this gif, I finally realized why I (and a lot of other film goers) would choose this shot as the best in all cinema.

MNHS has just added to its Emmy-winning “Music Making History” series. The new vid traces Minnesota’s role in the Edmund Fitzgerald story — and how Lightfoot’s song helped “the wives & the sons & the daughters” mourn.

It’d also be great as part of the Split Rock Lighthouse visitor experience.

Reminds me of a “Bussard ramjet” — a method of interstellar space travel first proposed in 1960. Carl Sagan talked about them in his Cosmos series.

If there’s one thing I’ve always said about Donald Trump, it is definitely that Donald Trump certainly does know an awful lot more about cattle ranching than cattle ranchers do, that is for god-damned sure.

All my life, I’ve rejected offers from friends to drag me into the fake elf troll king hero universe thing. No, the universe I’m in now keeps me pretty fucking busy and amused, but thanks nonetheless.

So, what Germany did is own up, as a society, to having committed genocide and resolve to spending the next 1000 years making amends materially and psychologically. NYTimes articles notwithstanding, I’m sure this idea is in the mix. Hey, Germany always picks up when Israel calls.

“Told the Colorado governor to phone the President and tell him, ‘Call off your National Guard.’ But the National Guard belongs to the governor so he didn’t try so very hard.”

Great performance of a great Woody Guthrie song.

A brother of mine married a pagan. I think the pagan coulda done better.
September’s Folklore (136:3) features two of my reviews on books about the social supernatural & the persistence of paganism. Both richly worth the doing. Some splendid other stuff too! 😉
