“I am sorry, you do not get to have it both ways: you cannot say “this is the most dangerous river valley in the United States” and then act like what happened was a total shock.”
I have spent the last 24 hours looking at media reports and social media posts about the Texas Hill County tragedy and being appalled by the level of misinformation I am seeing. I have tried to put together an updated, more reasoned summary I hope you'll read.

Why on earth is @npr.org only quoting posts on X in this timeline? Do they think that is the only way people receive weather information and warnings? The weather enterprise has worked tirelessly for decades to avoid this type of nonsense worldview and provide MANY sources to receive these warnings.

NPR has compiled a timeline of when local, state and federal officials posted warnings on social media as well as the timeline of events as presented by local officials.

Here are some of the data movies we made from the AIR's deployment on the Canadian, TX tornado 10 years ago today. Absolutely unbelievable resolution. The RHI sweep (see thread) is in real-time, demonstrating the ability to collect extremely high-temporal-resolution volumes.

It's been 10 years since the Canadian, TX tornado that capped my dissertation and made our BAMS cover article on the Atmospheric Imaging Radar possible. We collected data at 6-km range, capturing full volumes of the tornado's dissipation stages every 7 seconds. doi.org/10.1175/BAMS...

After a couple of years of mostly collecting dust, the snowblower has been getting a serious workout over the past few weeks. No blockbusters, but the storms are adding up. This time I made a path for the generator in the side yard given the expected winds tonight and tomorrow.
