You lease this for $300k/year

What business do you start?

Designers sell taste

The hardest thing about selling taste is that the client must have it too

The finer things in life are appreciated by fewer and fewer people

This makes the business of design really hard

The better you get, the fewer people you can sell to

Good designers do well in Figma

Great designers do well in prod

The critical point every financial advisor guru moron won't tell you is:

"past performance is no guarantee of future returns"

if I was investing based on past performance, I can buy Bitcoin, why would I buy the S&P?

Are you a good person?

Then start a business

Be the force that does business with ethics

It is imperative you gain power and wealth

And balance out what evil people are doing

Post your opinions under your real name

If you can't, are you really free?

"UX design" is a bogus role

You cannot separate UX from Design

All UI design is UX design by default

One that thinks through usability, function, copy, and aesthetic

a UX role alone is a LA LA LAND role

I design like an engineer

I know html, css, tailwind, react, python, node

This allows me to design software that's easy to build

I'm not the best engineer by any means

But having engineering knowledge is a superpower when it comes to design

Anyone else jot down the weather when taking notes?

I usually do date/time/weather/location/project every time I start a new notebook page

It’s fun to go back and see where I was over the year

Trying to beat my high score of 76k

Who else plays this?

Corporate engineers: "AI is okay, maybe a 10% improvement"

Founder engineers: "5-10x improvement, the world will never be the same"

I think corporations are applying AI to existing workflows and it's only a marginal improvement

While founders are letting AI write the new rules

You're seeing a serious drop in keywords being indexed

it's a pattern I'm noticing across the board

any SEO experts know what's going on?

I miss the times when the only people in tech were 100% nerds and didn't care at all about money

Today, most people in tech are closer to bankers and politicians

Designers love saying "consistency is key"

I think it's bulls**t

If you're consistent, the design is not evolving

Everything you do should be better

You can have consistent "brand voice" but also have an evolving "brand personality"

The new Volvo design language is massively underrated

Building SAAS apps is REALLY hard because providing sustained long term value to users is a rare thing to manufacture

If you can't say what you truly believe in

You are not a free person

You should say risky things just to exercise your freedom

Or slowly they will take your right to say it
October 23, 2025 at 9:47 PM
Who's secretly wishing this was true?

Not many businesses can resist changing

Updating the "brand" to look relevant

Or monetizing their your loss leaders

HackerNews did neither

Takes leadership and courage to do this

Most companies can't
October 21, 2025 at 3:57 AM
Design is more universal than people think

Like this subway, which combines the disciplines of engineering, architecture and graphic design

Can't make this happen without them all working together

You see this in software too

Good software is made by multi-disciplinary teams
October 19, 2025 at 4:56 AM
My unpopular opinion is that design is not subjective
