Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Sat. Jan. 17 #ElbowsUp #BuyCanadian #BoycottU.S. shop. Left of tea boxes is 🇨🇦: Local meat, Pacific fish, tortilla chips (from Nature's Path), root vegs, greens: full list in alt.text. Great to find licorice tea from Lebanon. Only iffy is taco fixings: "Imported to Canada"; doesn't say from where.

My 🇨🇦 grocery haul isn’t the only thing that gets spread on the kitchen island. It’s 🎄 down day here - the ornaments sorted before being packed away.

The commitment to #BuyCanadian #ElbowsUp stands firm. This week's shop: everything to the left of the baguette (including the baguette) is 🇨🇦 . To my utter delight, a #Stratford Saturday Farmers' Market vendor, Farm to Family, had local greenhouse-grown celery and green beans. Details in alt.text.

So sad to hear that Bob of Fanfare Books in Stratford has died.
Bob was a fierce supporter of my books. He was also borderline evangelical for Lessons From Cats For Surviving Fascism when it was self-published.
Do Bob proud, go read a book.

I didn't think my loathing of U.S.'s interactions in the world could get any stronger, but it has. Maintaining the #ElbowsUp #BuyCanadian 🇨🇦 shopping habits. Celery is once again the vegetable that seems impossible to source from anywhere other than U.S. #ByeByeMirepoix. Details in alt.text.

"In some places, French postal workers now pick up prescriptions, return library books, and deliver flowers. Last year, only twenty eight per cent of La Poste’s revenue came from sending mail."

Services can evolve in positive ways to meet new and growing needs.
For those who wonder what a modern postal service could look like, one example is in France, where letter carriers provide check-ins on the elderly for very affordable rates, while completing their routes.

I encourage everyone to read the whole thing

Whoa. A long-ish video but well worth the watch and learning.
have never used instacart and this guarantees i never will

absent adequate privacy and consumer-protection laws, we really should stop enabling the dystopian, tech-fueled profiteering world they desire
EXCLUSIVE: We found that Instacart is using AI algorithms to charge customers different prices for the same items.

It's not just online. It's in physical grocery stores too.

Our months-long investigation with @consumerreports.org and @groundwork.bsky.social found it could cost families $1200/year.
