Birds are awesome, and research keeps proving so.

@kristencovino.bsky.social et. al. published their paper in our Journal of Field Ornithology a while back.

The 2025 U.S. #StateOfTheBirds report was released today. The report finds that birds continue to decline unabated across most habitats—habitats that are also vital to human well-being.

Due to the Musk/Trump Administration’s draconian cuts, the National Science Foundation is significantly scaling back its program to provide college students with paid summer research internships. Many of my colleagues attribute their start in science to this program.

I have run out of patience with the apparent silence of most US science institutions (and not just US) in the face of Trump & Musk's rampage. There are of so many facets of that, but in this column for @chemistryworld.com I talk about the assaults on inclusion.

Scientific institutions have a long history of anticipatory obedience
Societies should learn from this and speak up to support inclusion

Instead of cutting costs for working families, Donald Trump is slashing the federal investments that fund their lifesaving care, fuel their local economy, and lower their health care costs.

It’s cruel, short-sighted, and will cost jobs and devastate millions of families.
