I work on old cool shows/cartoons in my spare time aiming to bring them into HD land. I also sometimes stream games n'stuff over on twitch!

Also come to think about it, in DISCO (with the galaxy-spanning treasure hunt)
There is a Trill called Jinaal Bix about 800 years old and the trill authorities considered its age extraordinary but nearing the end.
Dax was 350 ish years old in DS9 now 800 years later just still A-OK 🫤
Consistent?

RIP unborn child of Cassidy Yates and Capt Sisko. Annoyed about that too. It also messes up what Sisko said to Cassidy in a vision, and promised her that he would be back, "maybe (in) a year, maybe yesterday. But I will be back."

Should have had him returning like the DS9 S8 pitch but left it open

So this annoys me. Post burn where Starfleet is recovering from MANY years away you publicly talk about the most destructive thing known, that kills subspace and that in the 24th century was limited to Capt and flag officers to supress knowledge. Nothing bad could occur right, telling everyone?

So I did a video on my YT channel on handling IVTC with my stuff - plus I waffle about stuff in the beginning :)
Check it out if you want

How I handle interlacing / IVTC on my AI upscaling of DS9 and Voyager

A good visual of 4x3 standard presentation versus the #DS9 Documentaries approach with the rescan. You can see the extras bits missing from 4x3 and also how well the Laserdisc source manages through the current upscale pipeline
This is S1 "The Nagus"
Go see how crap this looks via streaming!

In AVISynth, defreq is a nice way to get rid of NTSC scanlines as shown here in a cleaned frame from the raw laserdisc output. I just wish it was re-written to handle 10+ bit. Its stuck in 8 bit land right now.

Bits of Star Trek #VOY will be pain. This is bob deinterlace slowed. Film, 24p origin is (top field first) prob telecined to 60i and VFX is (bottom field first), auth probably at 30i.
They overlaid these two things so the phaser blast animation is presented out of order. This is temporal heresy!

Seen the first episode of starfleet academy
blow that ship to hell! ... goes boom .... 'a teachable moment'..?!?
Really?? What about arresting them instead of killing them, you know to help cadets understand starfleet lol #startrek #trek #starfleetacademy

So I am about to watch the new Star Trek show - the intro bit for the 60th should put the Defiant and Voyager part through an SD tape mastered process with horrific combing and chroma issues.
It would be much more realistic in terms of where they have left 2 crown jewels of the IP, Last Trek in SD

I literally cannot watch the regular episodes now, either DVD or streaming
Since I have been working on these and Jonny solved a lot of the colour issues, the colours and general crap quality picture just make me nope the hell out of there.

Well its sharing pain time, I now cannot un-see this in every title run (of this version) #DS9
And now neither can you.... you're welcome

"The firm has also stated that it has taken on more staff in roles such as art, writing, and miniature sculpting in the first half of this financial year, stressing its commitment to human artists and creatives."
This is just so nice to read in these frankly insane times in which we find ourselves.

Since I've been getting a handle on the joys of looking for frame issues. I thought there was an issue with my clean-up script and I broke something!
Admittedly it could be the light but her right side neck ridges look uncoloured (1st shot), it looks OK in the rest of the episode
January 13, 2026 at 9:30 PM
TFM/TDecimate gets you most of the way, but #DS9 NTSC edits + VFX break cadence constantly.
I’m handling IVTC by double-weaving, evaluating multiple pulldown phases (3:2), and selectively replacing bad frames, with QTGMC as a last resort.
Yes thats frame by frame eyeballing, sucka for punishment 👍🥲🤓

This would be one for the 'no AI' persuasion.
Some laserdisc NTSC-J (usually inferior to NTSC) sourced Season 2 #DS9 "The Circle"
as indicated no AI used here at all, its cleaned up chroma issues as best as I was able, 480m colour corrected to Rec 709 and then Spline36 resized to 1440x1080.

So reading USC's 8-bit footage into 16-bit HDR EXR files for robust grading gave me ideas. What if I did #DS9 LaserDisc with archive grade output FFV1/16bit, cleaned up chroma/dot crawl issues with a script and exported it in a linear state
then do mobius tonemap into EXR ready for grading -cont..
January 9, 2026 at 12:42 PM
And again - don't want to bore people to tears with coding work in #DS9 haha
January 8, 2026 at 12:09 AM
I'll show a few more clips of the dot crawl mask debug (Its how I check its working right) - so you can see it in action - source is "The Circle" NTSC-J Laserdisc. FFV1 @ 444 and 16 bit
January 8, 2026 at 12:08 AM
Back working on #DS9 - at this prep stage the aim is to clean the picture up, tidy them NTSC issues (there is a lot) dot crawl, rainbowing, checkerboarding, chroma bleed, hanging dots, Gibbs artifacts etc.
Here is the Dot Crawl debug mask, White = working there.

Astrophotography large mosaic processing does not mess about!
And yes, I see you looking at the RAM total, just think it could of went to Open AI, I saved it! 😆
