Hi there. A bit of #astrophotography madness for you. Did you know that mounting a reducer on an @celestronuniverse.bsky.social #EdgeHD925 can be a challenge? When there is a #ZWO #EAF mounted too, you need to reduce the bracket as well. #hacksaw

Should’ve done this much earlier. I got a 9.25” @celestronuniverse.bsky.social #EdgeHD in july 2023. But it wasn’t until last night that I mounted the 0.7x reducer.

Working on a YouTube video about #astrophotography at a 5000 year old burial site in the Netherlands.

Will take some time still as I am also learning #davinciresolve for this vid.

This movie shows the bubbling surface of a distant star, as captured with unprecedented clarity by the ALMA observatory.

R Doradus is a huge star. Each of these bubbles is 50-75 times the diameter of our entire Sun! 🧪🔭

How is your #Dutch? And you like #astronomy? Know @sterrenstofnieuws.bsky.social already? In their latest podcast (48) they suggest the #astrophotography enthusiasts amongst their listeners to shoot + share images of M90, a spiral #galaxy in Virgo.

Here is my attempt telescopius.com/pictures/vie...

I was at the #ATT in Essen, Germany. Europe's biggest expo, according to themselves.

I made a video touring the event. Were you there too? Did I miss anything? Feel free to leave me suggestions for next years edition on May 9th 2026

My M51 project obsessive data mongering is done (for now). Curiously it was only the 4th time I was imaging this very well-known target.

As I have only been sharing the crop, I thought to also show the full field of view.

Need to play with my data a bit more, but I am thoroughly impressed with the new @siril.org and its ability to stack and stitch mosaics.

Editing my data of M51, I tried pushing it to the extremes. I still think it is awesome to see so much resemblance between my @celestronuniverse.bsky.social backyard image and that of @stsci.edu #HST Hubble Space Telescope.

I am still enjoying to compare my own #astrophotography images to those of the #HST and #JWST run by @spacetelescope.bsky.social. I improved an edit I did on Stephan's Quintet.

I think I need some help from an actual #astronomer like @drbecky.bsky.social. Please share if you know someone who can help me identify the high proper motion stars in my comparison of M51 with a 20 year old @spacetelescope.bsky.social HST image.

See 🧵for what I've found so far.

I am an #astrophotography nerd. So I have been asking myself a question ever since I started using @bsky.app

No, it doesn’t seem to be an actual starry sky that shows when starting the app 😅

Did you see my attempt to shoot M51 yet? Take a look at my profile for more info.

Tonight I am adding Ha using the #optolong #LeXtreme filter. My #ZWO camera is doing just fine with it!

@siril.org does the rest 😇💪

This is just a teaser…

Work in progress. M51 has somehow evaded my attention in my #astrophotography. I have some sets of data on my harddisk, but nothing to really be proud of.

That is going to change, now I shoot it with the EdgeHD 9.25”. Perhaps I should start adding L-eXtreme data to it.

A month ago I posted about an Einstein Ring which I photographed with my backyard EdgeHD 9.25”.

Since then I added more data (611x180s) and with careful processing it got a bit clearer still. See #Hubble image for comparison.

Last week I shared a small clip of my rig. With it I have been imaging very small targets lately. The Celestron EdgeHD 9.25” at f/10 brings me real close in to targets.

I enjoy comparing my images to those of the famous Space Telescopes (JWST and Hubble)

But what about youtube.com/koplamp you ask?

Yes, indeed… I distract myself constantly from working on videos. Apologies!

Any video in particular that you would like to see?

A week ago I shot almost 300 images of 10 seconds each with my Celestron EdgeHD 9.25". After stacking with Siril and processing I got to this result. I processed the image to accentuate the bowshock around the star LL Ori.

Work in progress! 99 photos of 3 minutes. Stacked and processed in @siril.org Will add more data once I can.

Downloaded and processed Hubble Space Telescope data too and processed it similarly. You then can see the Einstein Ring CSWA 1 more clearly. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmic_...

Wishing for clearer ways to educate people to the downsides of #lightpollution. So much of nighttime lighting is unneeded and often unnecessarily pointing into the air.

Most people don't see it as pollution, shrug their shoulders and close their blackout curtains to be able to get some sleep. 😢
