Dave Pike Set – Infra-Red [MPS Records reissue 2011. Originally 1970]

I've yet to hear a Dave Pike recording I didn't like, but this album and lineup are particularly good. The secret weapon is Volker Kriegel on guitar, sitar, percussion, and vocals...

A compilation of 1960s and 1970s commercial music by Mike Sammes, 44 tracks in total. It's very bright and cheerful-sounding with plenty of Bah-Bah-Bah, Doo-Doo-Doo,

Steward Home. Fascist Yoga: Grifters, Occultists, White Supremacists and the New Order in Wellness. Pluto Press, 2025.
There's a reason why 'conspirituality' is a concept. While yoga and the new age are often coded as liberal, their roots lie in far-right and fascist culture.

Suns Of Arqa – Un1verse City [EMI. 2001]

In the player.

This is proving to be one of my favourite SoA releases. Whirling dub trance music. Marvelous stuff.

Xhol – Motherfuckers GmbH & Co KG [Germanophone reissue 1995. Originally 1972]

Initially, I thought this album was an unfocused affair, but it sounds better and better as time goes by. Xhol presents us with trippy jazzbo experiments and an extended version of Love Potion 25.

The Belbury Circle – Outward Journeys [Ghost Box. 2017]

An enjoyable synth pop collaboration between Jim Jupp (Belbury Poly) & Cate Brooks (The Advisory Circle). Special guest John Foxx provides vocals on two tracks. Bonus points for Julian House's vaporwave-inspired cover art.

Musique concrète from Julian House, where recollections of odd incidents and fragments of memories flit by.

Fille Qui Mousse – Trixie Stapelton 291 Se Taire Pour Une Femme Trop Belle [Mellow Records. 1994]

Henri-Jean Enu's masterwork is a curious affair, a bit like Faust; some of it sounds like nothing else ever put to tape. It's art damage supreme.

Homne Päev – Homne Päev [Estonian Voice. 1980]

A thrift store curio. Sunshine pop with vocals in the Estonian language. It's very chirpy and cheerful.

Includes a Beatles cover, 'Sloop John B', and a version of "My Way'.

Sadly, I couldn't locate samples on YouTube.

Master Wilburn Burchette – Music Of The Godhead For Supernatural Meditation [Burchette Brothers. 1975]

A wonderful listening experience, think Popol Vuh meets Achim Reichel's echo-guitar traveling to the evolutionary level above human.

Kraan – Aladin Tapes [36music. 2025]

Recorded live in March 1980 at Aladin/Bremen, Germany.
It's a top performance by the German jazz-rock outfit.

Johannes Pappert on sax is sadly missing from the lineup, replaced by Ingo Bischof on keyboards, so all is well.

From the heady days of May '68 onwards, we are introduced to Gong, Magma, Lard Free, Fille Qui Mousse, Red Noise, Etron Fou Leloublan, Jac Berrocal, and more.

I'm about 2/3 of the way through the book. It's a fantastic reading experience. It's also inspiring me to take my Gong, Magma, Red Noise, etc albums off the shelf once more, not that I needed an excuse.
Great interview on The Music Book Podcast with Ian Thompson, author of a new book "Synths, Sax, & Situationists: The French Musical Underground 1968-1978," which is out now. It's superb, and I'm reviewing it for the next issue of MOOF magazine.

One of the most unpleasant & frankly stalker-like aspects of Bluesky is an obsession with documenting who other people are following. What's it to you, & why do you care?

I can only imagine they were once school hall monitors who now miss the power to shame and scold.

Serge Gainsbourg / Jean-Claude Vannier – Les Chemins De Katmandou [Finders Keepers. 2017]

The long thought-lost soundtrack for the 1969 film directed by André Cayatte. Vannier's icy orchestration is blended with tablas and sitars to a beautifully trippy effect.

Moon Wiring Club – Tantalising Mews [Gecophonic Audio Systems. 2xCD. 2017]

Now playing.

I love Ian Hodgson's Moon Wiring Club project, from the stylistically uniform artwork to the hiccupping rhythms and ghostly, fragmented sampling.
