Fan of MC Pipokinha; currently thinking about how the Chad Mitchell Trio foreshadow both punk rock and adult contemporary music. The people united will never be defeated.

2nd viral riff discovered lurking behind 1st, so I rework my APT Thai substack post, adding edits, updates + 2,000 words of brand-new footnotes. I use the phrase "stitched-together Frankenstein creature" and somehow don't mean the piece itself. Think I've improved it

"Bota Elas Na Garupa" I'd boosted during Challenge Week but I hadn't heard it earlier, which makes this entire match a Platinum Beat (Platinum Beat is a match where all 4 tracks are Golden Beats, i.e. favorite tracks we hadn't heard before the competition). So good work nominators – and boosters!

Midnights and TTPD felt increasingly like Taylor trying to take as much actual "music" out of her music as possible, and The Life Of A Showgirl brings those elements back and lets her interact with the production - I like the kitschy, Disco Tek & The Sexolettes-ish vamp in the chorus to Ophelia lots

Rebecca Black's great song is "Trust!"; Katherine St. Asaph says it's like a Britney demo singer (complimentary), I say it's like Rebecca has power-stained Britney and Gaga into herself, all the scheming and desperate sluttiness just *there*, not even forced.

Discovered that DJ Joecel was on the Xangai case on behalf of budots in Dec. 2024.

(Joecel also did a budots mix of "APT Thai" back in Nov. 24 when it was still Noi Chernyim, before Silvy Kumalasari had superseded Chernyim.)

Listening to Skinner. Is the only one nominated for PeoplesPop25 who could conceivably have heard my music (not that that's *likely*, mind you). My pick to click would be "Calling In Sick."

DAY 7
BOOST
La Nonna Go, MC Topre, MC Lukinhas 011 "Bota Elas Na Garupa" [Brazil]
Like a miniature marimba made of tongue depressors and bits of plywood, w/ a couple of youngsters trying to capture their own thoughts. (La Nonna Go mix by far the best.)

DAY 6
@onefive - Kibidango [Japan]
BOOST
First I've heard @onefive; remind me of Oh My Girl breaking supposed sonic and emotional unity of so-called "song." Also strike me as "neocute," i.e., claiming to reclaim cuteness as empowered choice.

DAY 5
MC Laranjinha, Wesley Gonzaga ft. DJ Gvzinho Tralha - Próxima Parada [Brazil]
They try to look like criminals, Laranjinha wants multi-partner sex, the sound is a total ache of mystery.

DAY 4
Nelly Furtado - Corazón (DJ Arana Remix) [Canada, Brazil]
The original was choppy but joyous, a breakout, self-acceptance. This year's remix pares it down, darker, descending riff, I'm here now, now, I can't stop, I can't stop, I can't stop.

DAY 3
Simona - Cocon [Argentina]
Siren in all senses of the word: seducer, warning blare, power in making people want you and the desperate vulnerability of needing to be wanted. (IRL she's a rattle-clatter art experimentalist - unless *this* is IRL.)

DAY 2
DJ Danz - Sugdan Na Ang Pag Budots [Philippines]
Budots, from Davao City. The big bubbling bass on the offbeats is so easy to compulsively move to that it makes the silly xylophone riff and the space-invader whooshes seem almost stately on top.

DAY 1
Silvy Kumalasari - APT Thailand X Culik Aku Dong [Indonesia]
Thai love-spell, extensively memed & mashed, got interpolated into Indonesian song; this lovely talent-show *cover* of intermix was so popular itself that *it* got even more memed&mashed.

MC Xangai, cjnobeat, etc. "Menina do Job" (2024). Still *doing* 2024 (well, still doing 2018...) but just found this, and what's almost as good as the song itself is that I discovered MC Xangai's vocal as part of an Indonesian DJ mashup (to appear soon on my Substack)

Gutenberg Bible hits 500 exactly! Not choosing for words themselves (which obv pre-date this, & I doubt Latin Vulgates's Psalm 136 beats KJV 137's "they that wasted us required of us mirth"). But this ed opens era making Bible widely available for future remixes and mashups. And's a good-looking P.

Wouldn't know how to choose between, say, "Give My Regards To Broadway" and Mahler's 5th, and can only imagine Isadora Duncan's debut in St. Petersburg, dancing to Chopin; but I love the flat expression on the face of the mustached bkgd musician in Max Slevogt's Portrait Of The Dancer Anna Pavlova.
