Fan of MC Pipokinha; currently thinking about how the Chad Mitchell Trio foreshadow both punk rock and adult contemporary music. The people united will never be defeated.

Made this Korean hip-hop playlist to put what I intend to write about XG in perspective. Am ignorant so would like your input on what *you* would put on such a list – obv I veer idol pop more than hip-hop per se, and count non-Koreans like XG, Jay Park. Chronological.

Good news in Aurora, where I live, as several Repubs pushing idea that Venezuelans are gang members & criminals get voted off city council. Bad news down in Littleton, tho, as voters make it harder to build more living units, i.e., for poor people to find housing.

Progressive candidates lead in all Aurora council races, Littleton anti-dense housing measure leads
Aurora’s council races were among metro Denver’s most notable contests and ballot measures in the off-year election.

ATTN: @jelbugle.bsky.social This was the first I'd even heard *of* Poison, afaik, unless Chuck had mentioned them in a letter. Piece also gives brief thumbs up to GN'R about 10 mos. before they went commercially boffo.
3 of the 5 albums focused on here made it into my infamous metal book Stairway to Hell a few years later, which means plenty of the writing did too. But not all of it — including, I’m fairly certain, the battle of bands between Mötley Crüe and Pussy Galore. Not to mention the headline for the ages.

Andre Sennwald's review of *The First World War* from 1934, what looks to be a fascinating rethinking of the war using old photoreels. Note the film's date: 1934, and the film's title, the assumption being there's more to come. Need NYT subscription for link.

DJ Yuzak's the guy who produced the "Ritmadinho do Mario" track I threw at the Jukebox last year. This year he's found the pizzicato preset on his combo etch-a-sketch and training-wheel keyboard set and deploys it on his album for its lightness & sense of spontaneity.

Ashley Monroe does good things aesthetically that I'm mostly bad at understanding. She uses reverb, washes, haze in a way that doesn't feel eerie or haunted, is more the opposite: she has timing, presence, like she exists several meters to the side of everyone else.

Huh?

New this month, Qu1lates -MC ft. MC Morena (prod. 081noBeat) "Bandido Da Quebrada (Remix Brega Funk)." Is a remix that takes rhythmic liberties. From the visual presentation I sense that it's aimed at a funk crowd, not an art crowd.

Not a fruit juice aficionado, so one of these major cultural shifts that I didn't notice when it was happening: When did cranberry juice take over the juice aisle? It hasn't displaced apple juice and grape juice as the major item, but is there competing with them. & combining with all other flavors.

thanks to an article i read in rock files abt skinhead fandom, bolan's genre for me will always be "hot goblinism"

(the article was dismissive, which i don't understand given this terrific phrase)

t rex is its own special problem! back in the day tyrannosaurus rex had been an elfin-folk albums band: bolan very consciously re-positioned himself (somewhat earning the disdain of the rock papers)

Question for ‪@andrewhickey.500songs.com‬ and @dubdobdee.bsky.social – what do you make of what Chuck has found here? Before reading I would've said that even in '70s, "glam" is the broader term and the greater usage, tho "glitter" gets extra boost 'cos more Amer. critics hence more Dolls bias.
Google Ngram reveals barely minimal publication of the phrase “glam rock” prior to 1980; “glitter rock” usage exceeding “glam rock” from the late ’60s until mid ’80s; and “glam metal” not appearing at all until late ’80s. NY Times searches pretty much confirm this hunch: No “glam rock” until 1989.

I'd forgotten how *weird* Sade had seemed when I first heard them. ("Them." The band's name is Sade. They're named after their singer. Just like the band Alice Cooper. YES, THEY ARE JUST LIKE ALICE COOPER.) My friend Kevin brought the record over, a new British band. /1

The Joe Flacco trade must be very important, given that the Bengals swapped a 5th-round pick for a 6th-round pick in order to get him. That's why I just spent an hour-and-a-half reading about it.

Would hope that existing Pitchfork readers and Taylor Swift fans (not to mention spectral Pitchfork readers and spectral Taylor Swift fans), if they were to come across something I write/wrote about Taylor, would hear her differently, or anew, or at least be interested enough to rethink.
For me the reason they should be doing it isn't that existing Pitchfork readers will change their mind about Taylor Swift but that Taylor Swift fans might read it, think this is interesting, and be led to other things. A very slim chance, I'm sure, but worth 1 of 1600 review slots IMO
