1/ THREAD: This year ICE has sent a record 600 immigrant kids into federal shelters, more than in the previous four years combined. Data suggests some are being separated from their families.

Why does this happen so frequently in the US and not in other industrialized countries? I guess we can never know.

#OTD in 1943, an editorial in the Seattle Times supports the continued incarceration of Japanese Americans. The author states that it is impossible to definitively prove loyalty. To prove their allegiance, they should "regard their present confinement as their war contribution."

Trump/Elon say these programs harm AsAms, but I’ve been in convo with AsAm students working with other students of color to defend their campus programs and student centers. Don’t believe the fascist trolls in the White House!
New letter from Trump Dept of Ed suggests racial equity programs/DEI disadvantage #AsianAmericans and whites. Asian Americans, we should challenge this false, dangerous narrative EVERY SINGLE TIME. @oiyanpoon.bsky.social and I show why below

The question that continues to haunt me as a novice data vizer (is that a word? 😂) are how these “trade offs” - from complex to minimalist - actually helps frame the issue.
Been wondering about a lot in #dataviz lately. Like this viz today on the weather extremes around the world in 2024. Why so clean? Why wouldn't we as data visualizers show the mess and havoc of the data/worrying events in a messy and less minimalistic way?
Discuss 🤗

Saw an ad for the Apple TV show Severance season two and watched season one on a whim. I can say, wow, totally missed this gem of a show when it came out a few years ago.
