People are responding to this with confused outrage (the ‘outrage’ part is fair fwiw), so as a reminder: lay-offs are to appease the stock market and Phil is saying this to shareholders.
The company isn’t worried about making you mad because you, ultimately, don’t matter. Only shareholders do.

so i was laid off in the microsoft gaming massacre. 15 years at zenimax, more than half that spent working on BGS titles. Worked myself up to QA Lead in 2017. Bethesda games made me want to work in gaming. And Microsoft killed that passion. Adios, gaming industry. You truly suck out loud these days.

I’ve been laid off from Bethesda Softworks as a QA tester. If anyone has work they can point me to (even, or especially, outside the games field) please let me know!
