I just learned that a concept central to our business is considered radical by most:

No lying. Ever.

We have 8 days left in Q1 and we are $21K short of our quarterly goal.

Here is what our active pipeline looks like:

- $5K in verbal commitments
- $6K in very warm leads (they said they plan to move forward on the call)

People quit their managers, not their jobs.

All other non-managerial factors being equal (compensation, work hours, perks, etc.), people leave a toxic, uninspiring, disengaged manager.

Two of our women team members in Pakistan broke off their unwanted marriages.

I won’t go into details because the stories aren’t mine to share, but here’s the overview:

I don’t take advice from rich people.

Not necessarily. 😇

A team member was going through a life change and was seeking advice from people around her—often with, obviously, conflicting views.

She asked me too. My advice? Don’t take advice from people whose life you don’t want.

In honour of Women's History Month, here is an uncomfortable truth:

Women are harder on other women. I'll speak for myself

I had a trigger today where I got "inappropriately annoyed" at one of our talents and realized something about myself.

I cried after reviewing our financials for 2024.

Profitability tanked from 52% to below 20%.

For a moment, I thought about just giving up.

I was sad, disappointed—but mostly angry at myself for not controlling expenses better or seeing this coming.

We've had a lot of death around us recently.

One, in particular, hit me hard. When I got the news, I turned to my (business and life) partner and said, "Nothing even matters. If we're going to work this hard, we NEED to enjoy the ride—otherwise, what's the point?"

He agreed.

At Goodwork, we're on a mission to help 1M women from underemployed regions gain financial independence by helping them get online jobs with international employers.

(Our secret mission is to smash the patriarchy 🤫😇).

The impact we've had has been pretty cool. 😎 (1/5)

A love letter to my fellow female founders:

I see you.

I see what people say and think about you.

You work too hard, but you’re also not working hard enough.

You should hustle harder, but slow down, you’re burning out.

Was on a sales call Friday with a potential client who had to downsize or risk going bankrupt.

His reaction after learning about the cost savings with remote hiring through us:

"Oh, so I can cut costs without losing momentum."

YUP.

Hire entrepreneurs for your leadership teams.

They are able to see things as part of an ecosystem, in all of its parts and able to see it through to the end.

This is a rare skill that most entrepreneurs have.

Many others operate in a vacuum - in their role/department.

New criteria for hiring managers:
Would I work for them?
Is yes, yes.
If no, no.

Saw a video of a boomer founder who’d exited their VC backed company ~10 years ago saying that founder led marketing is a bad idea because it makes it harder to sell.

B2B businesses can’t afford NOT to do founder led marketing.

Sales = time x trust

Founder marketing = trust

Ok boomer

When I’m feeling frustrated about not hitting revenue goals, I think about the value of my health and loved ones and realize I’m a billionaire 😊🙏🏽

You know what we don’t talk about often? The impact of the intergenerational scarcity mindset that is passed down to immigrant kids and how it affects how you run your business.

I love that I get to work from home, no make-up, in my pjs (waist down) and that I get to empower other women to do the same. 😁

What does a mammogram and my weekly financial review with our bookkeeper have in common? Both make me scurred. 😬😳

Female founders, where you at?
November 28, 2024 at 10:21 PM
I bootstrapped 3 businesses by selling first, then building.

Revenue funded from day 1.

Sometimes no money = good business. 🤓
