Gold (pictured) and silver are today making new all-time highs. There can now be no doubt that the "debasement trade" is real and huge. Fiscal policy is unsustainable in so many countries and markets - understandably - fear that debt will be inflated away...

The Dollar fell sharply after this week's Fed cut and there's hand-wringing over who will be the next Fed chair. But no one's talking about how USD will go into another weakening cycle. Markets are tired of the Dollar down narrative. That story's over...

Japan's government says it may "intervene" before the Japanese Yen to US Dollar ratio reaches 160. Over the last 2 months, the Yen has gone from 145 to 157 as a $110B+ stimulus package is coming. We are ~2% away from "intervention."

The end of the shutdown should be pulling gold prices down because it reduces odds of recession and pushes real rates up. That isn't happening. Gold prices are rising again on headlines the shutdown will soon be over. This should give all those debt aficionados - especially across Europe - pause...

The Yen is massively underperforming other currencies, a sign how much trouble Japan is in due to its debt overhang. Global interest rates are falling, which should be boosting the Yen (blue). Instead it's falling and falling. Japan is the biggest victim of the #MMT "debt doesn't matter" nonsense...

Japan is in a debt crisis. When the BoJ allows yields to rise, the Yen stabilizes, but rising yields make Japan's debt burden unaffordable. When the BoJ caps yields, the Yen weakens, threatening another devaluation spiral like in 2022-2024. No good options.

Are they going to create video games where they kidnap and dismember journalists like Jamal Khashoggi?

Tonight I learned that one of my heroes has died. I loved her and colleagues' "adventures" as a child and grew up to admire her scientific work for so many reasons. RIP Jane Goodall.

US farmers are saying they "just need temporary help, until things get better."

Here's the thing. US farm exports- which are mostly soy- CANNOT get better.

Other countries expanded their soy industries to fill China's demand.

We've walled ourselves out of the global market, folks. This is it.

So I turned to Claude Code... and ~10 iterations+30 minutes later it found the issue:
