It's gone now but there used to be an official reply on their support forums that plainly stated that shuffle isn't random, it 'prioritizes the songs you like the most'.

I ended up cancelling last year b/c I was sick of hearing the same songs all the time, even when shuffling 6k+ 'liked' songs.
