Democrats are in DC, ready to negotiate and make a deal that cancels Trump and Republicans’ cuts, lowers costs, and saves health care for the American people.

But Mike Johnson chose to send House Republicans home. Republicans are shutting the government down.

America is beautiful, contradictory, unfinished. I am proud of our country even as we constantly strive to make it better, to protect and deepen our democracy, to fulfill its promise for each and every person who calls it home.

Happy Independence Day. No Kings in America.

Even Republicans in Congress are pointing out Trump doesn't seem to realize the bill slashes hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicaid which he says is a taboo. Why are they doing this? No one can say.

Every single House Democrat will stand up for the American people.

We just need four Republicans to join us.

What happened to Senator Padilla is not okay. It's outrageous.

Americans will stand up tomorrow to voice our support for democracy and oppose this attempted coup. Join us in peaceful protest.
Senators are ELECTED to be a VOICE for their constituents. What happens when that voice is stifled, thrown to the ground, and handcuffed like Senator Padilla was?

We have a democracy, but we can lose that democracy.

I took to the Senate floor to speak out—I hope you'll join me.

What happened to Senator Padilla in California today is outrageous. Senator Padilla is a respected leader of great dignity and he has every right to ask a question of Secretary Noem without being slammed down and handcuffed.

I'll never look at my Matilija poppies and Bergenia in the same way after this morning's enlivening NHS talk. So many unexpected insights, from the history of lavender in my home state (WA), to the moving story of artist Clementine Hunter.
