Quick thread on the BBC and the political and societal significance of recent developments:

One of the main reasons the UK has historically been so much less polarised than the US, is that Britain has a shared source of information, consumed and trusted by most people regardless of their politics.

"Now, with yet another liberal woman prematurely departing Swedish politics, we need to be clear about what is happening here: women are being chased out of public life ... In one of the world’s strongest democracies, this is becoming the new normal."

Isabella Weber on Mamdani & lessons we can learn:

"This is antifascist economics – not opposing any particular party, but addressing the material conditions that make fascism appealing. It’s a program restoring universal dignity rather than fueling divides and blaming scapegoats for the crisis."

Yup.

Mamdani's idea of baby baskets was inspired by Finland, where they have existed since 1949.
Europeans recognize Zohran Mamdani’s supposedly radical policies as ‘normal’
Critics of New York City’s mayor-elect have said his pledges of free bus service and universal childcare are unrealistic, but in Europe it’s a given

The drug is currently approved for diabetes and weight loss, but also has anti-inflammatory properties. Anecdotal evidence suggests it may help people with Long Covid.

It roots its action in a “controversial theory — an ‘aristocracy’ is needed to move the country forward.”

Interesting thread on social media use.

"The result? A loud angry minority dominates online politics, which itself can drive polarization."
Is social media dying? How much has Twitter changed as it became X? Which party now dominates the conversation?

Using nationally representative ANES data from 2020 & 2024, I map how the U.S. social media landscape has transformed.

Here are the key take-aways 🧵
