Vital piece of investigative reporting from Sky. They've uncovered the X algorithm which feeds users extremist right wing material from the moment they join the site. It is a far-right radicalisation engine, by design.

"Science is being destroyed across many agencies" say federal researchers.

For my latest @nature.com piece, I spoke to 19 different scientists across EPA, NOAA, NIH, NASA, and USGS to document how science is being dismantled across US federal agencies.
Dismantling of US federal agencies will ‘destroy science’
From NASA to the National Institutes of Health, federal agencies conduct research that universities cannot. Agency scientists speak out about the irreplaceable facilities, institutional knowledge and ...

For all the AI-bubble-is-about-to-burst talk out there, if you've attended the #HotChips conference this year (that's been around for much longer than said bubble), it's really hard to miss the fact that a whole industry is aligning, and putting all its (vast) resources towards a single goal: AI.

In the past four months, the total, at universities across the U.S., is about $11 billion. The cuts affect things like cancer research, diabetes treatments, new wearable technology, farming solutions and studying domestic violence: research across nearly every discipline and subject.
What losing billions in federal grants means for universities, and the nation
The Trump administration has so far frozen about $11 billion in research funding. University leaders say no other source can fill the void.

The current scientists who see their life’s work destroyed with the loss of funding, and the resulting loss of employment

President Trump's "skinny" budget request absolutely eviscerates scientific research funding.

The @aaas.org estimates the request would constitute an 82.5% reduction in research spending (and that's just the agencies named in the request).

Budget released today:
40% cut to NIH
50% cut to NSF
If enacted, this will destroy academic research in the United States. It will also have a major trickle down effect on the entire academic ecosystem
