I’ve decided I want to experience this series again before reading the latest installment by @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social

If I read one book per month I’ll be ready for my preordered paperback of Absolution when it’s released in October. #booksky

“God is on your side” makes for a clever, feel-good cliché, but it’s not true.

God is on the side of love, peace, justice, and redemption.

If you are on that side, God is right there with you.

If you are not, God beckons you to switch sides.

And the thing is, in the US healthcare system, physicians (and everybody who sees patients) are the ONLY people who actually got into this business to help patients. Every other aspect of US Healthcare is designed to milk your body for as much money as possible without care for you as a person.

This worked up pretty quickly if you’re familiar with jasmine stitch. The tutorial is incredibly clear and well done.

Stephanie Nolen reporting that 1,200,000 children will die because of this decision. Unconscionable.
State Dept gave Congress its full list of 5,300+ USAID program terminations. The sweeping cuts for health alone - from global childhood vaccines to surveillance for deadly diseases to malaria work - entail massive loss of life & national security risk. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/26/h...

This will directly cause hundreds of thousands of new and needless deaths from tuberculosis every year, and reverse decades of progress in fighting our deadliest infection. I'm just devastated.
Tuberculosis, the deadliest infectious disease on the planet, kills more than 1.25M people a year. New infections are expected to surge by 30% as a result of closing USAID, a memo says. The increase will inevitably lead to cases in the U.S.
Internal Memos: Senior USAID Leaders Warned Trump Appointees of Hundreds of Thousands of Deaths From Closing Agency
One million children will go untreated for severe malnutrition, up to 166,000 people will die from malaria and 200,000 more children will be paralyzed by polio over the next decade, the memos…

Do you and your SO watch #severance together? Are TV references the bedrock of your communication?

If you like weird, this certainly is. I read it in a day, loved the funny first-person POV recounting a cancer journey and a very weird town. Recommend if you are okay with the CWs and ambiguous endings.

The measles virus that circulates currently isn’t that different from the measles virus isolated from bodies preserved from hundreds of years ago. It doesn’t mutate constantly like flu or COVID. Can you imagine if it did?
Measles high infection rate is the reason we have not yet been able to eradicate it. That rate means you need a very high vaccination rate to prevent outbreaks. It is possible, but not with current levels of institutional distrust.
The average person with the flu gives it to around 1.4 people. The average person with measles gives it to between 12 and 18 people.
