What makes the final phase of game development tiring isn't necessarily long hours. It's the intensity of the work itself. The number of pings you get, the amount of context switching, pushing several critical lanes at once. Tense decision-making. Solving complex bugs while the clock ticks down.

I worked at another studio that did this, giving the director's tickets automatic max priority which was named after him. Mental to think about it now.

It's a rite of passage as a gamedev to implement true randomness into a game mechanic, realise how bad it feels, and then add guardrails and biases.
Even the monsters in Returnal have a check that says "if you randomly chose this attack 3 times in a row, pick a different one next".
