While researching this article, I looked at several Japanese companies to find points of comparison. Here is an example of what I found on SNK.
In the early 90s, new SNK recruits were put through their paces before even taking up their positions at the company. Two former developers hired in 1991 and 1992 respectively reported that training took place in Nara under Spartan conditions. The group of just under 50 new recruits had to spend 3 days and 2 nights looking after each other in what seemed more like a test of physical and mental endurance than a team-building exercise, wearing prison uniforms and going on long night walks, armed with a map and onigiri, not forgetting to write a letter of thanks to the company president every evening. Several people dropped out during the course, while almost half of the new recruits quit within the first year, according to one of the developers.

I will be honest, I did not realize the unreleased Viewpoint 2064 even had a final version. As a fan of the original game and its various incarnations though, I can't wait to sit down with this over the holiday weekend!

An illustration of Kelda, my waterfall elemental character, seen in profile emerging from a body of water. Her hair churns the water’s surface and leaves a trail of bubbles. Another old piece, but one I like a lot. The simple effect of the POV being slightly submerged in the water adds a lot of depth to the composition, and her expression is so serene and calming (to me, at least). It’s like she’s fascinated by something just out of frame. It’s a vibe.
