One of the aims of Finnegans Web is to showcase the experimental side of Irish literature. I'd guess that not many Japanese readers would associate Ireland with literary experimentation, whereas in actual fact such experimentation has always been at the heart of modern Irish literature.

Attended an interesting event the other day featuring three Irish writers talking about literature and art. The talk reminded me of the following interview. pmc.iath.virginia.edu/issue.107/17...

Words in Finnegans Wake are generally quite opaque, polysemic and multilingual, yet their pronunciations are clear and uniform most of the time, which is quite surprising. One could of course intentionally mispronounce them, but then the words stop making much sense.

I'm supposed to be on a "Finnegans Break" but as a way of not translating Chapter I.3, I'm ending up writing other stuff that's related to the Wake anyway. Hm.

I guess it just comes down to more voters waking up to the reality of the situation. As long as people keep voting for landlord TDs, the situation will only become worse. www.rte.ie/news/ireland...

Gabriel Naudé's History of Magick, originally printed in French in 1625, was a defence of science & intellectualism against accusations of witchcraft & magic. Glad we're past that now!

In case any left-leaning types are assuming that Japan has elected an Ardern or even a Merkel, the new Japanese prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, is widely considered to be a right-wing nationalist who holds Thatcher as her role model – a Japanese version of Meloni, basically. 🫤

I'm beginning my research phase for "Sirens" and I'm not sure what to cover in this episode. I'm considering covering it in a single episode and then moving onto "Cyclops," which I have A LOT to talk about. What would you want me to cover from "Sirens?"
