The Renewing #Biodiversity Longitudinal Survey (ReBLS) explores how individual attitudes to #nature change over time.

Read this fascinating update from the team behind the research.

Just spent a day with trainee GPs. We explored “blue health”, created psychographic walks, took photographs, wrote poetry and made zines. I thought of Seamus Heaney’s poem, Postscript, in which “soft buffetings…catch the heart off guard and blow it open.” Some of their poems were like that ❤️

I know there are some pressing world issues, but this morning I’ve stopped a tree surgeon from felling a valuable tree & “tidying up” undergrowth important to (e.g.) wrens, robins, blackbirds, hedgehogs — & I feel bl**dy good about it & my (shy) self for approaching & speaking out.

I love this so much!

At the inauguration, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson wore a distinctive collar adorned with cowrie shells, which are believed to offer protection from evil in African traditions.

This choice mirrors the late Justice Ginsburg’s practice of using collars to convey a message.

Interesting piece by Martha Gill on the disconnect between protections given to human-created culture, buildings, landscapes & historical sites & that afforded to Nature & our irreplaceable natural heritage

Why this hierarchy of heritage? Our obsession with buildings and artefacts is blinding us to the value of nature

Word of the Day is one I keep posting at the end of the year, hoping its time will come.

‘Respair’, from the 16th century, is fresh hope, and a recovery from despair.

Here’s to a few drops of respair in 2025.

Happy Winter Solstice to all in the northern hemisphere.

The turn of the year's tide, a pivot-point, a day of hope—when the dark stops rising & after which the Sun begins its slow climb back.
A day I celebrate more than Christmas or New Year.

Fiat lux!

This is good news for the Duchy’s human tenants. We now need to push to abolish feudalism for Nature on the Duchies, Crown, Church & State land, and give its natural ‘tenants’ substantive rights & guardians to uphold them

On my way to Christie's to read poetry at Maggie's - a space for people with cancer and for those who love them. And I'm remembering people I've lost this year, including Kathryn. Lord, do I miss her.

Welcome to Maggie's. The kettle's already on.

Just had the most unexpected nature experience: opened my boat hatch to see an otter frolicking in the Roding, in the willow directly opposite.

Slightly hard to believe that there could be an otter in Barking, but I managed to get a video of what would appear to be the most urban otter in London!
