Lots of people using the word 'swarm' at the moment, when they really mean 'wave' or 'barrage'. 'Swarming' is different to just flying lots of aircraft at the same time. Here's something I wrote 5 years ago...

I'm excited for #Avalon next week: The pinnacle of 🇦🇺 #UAS/#Drone industry gathering!

I wrote this 👇 last year, but haven't posted about it yet. Stoked to have #ASPI and #AusAirForce support to write this opinion piece for the ANZ Defence Directory 2025.

Drone-in-a-box was going wild at @XPONENTIALshow Europe, and it’s about time!
DIAB aims to put drones anywhere they can be connected, to be operated remotely in centralised locations. Here’s a selection of pics of systems on display at #XPoEurope2024 to inspire your imagination.

Coolest thing at #XPo: #DefendEye, a tube-launched, disposable, AI search drone.
249g, 10 minutes, eyes in the sky with image detect on board with smartphone cameras. Easy to put it back in the case and then it charges by USB.

2nd Coolest thing at #XPo: #RheinBahn autonomous bus.
Driven (pun intentional) by a bus driver shortage, #RheinBahn of Germany is leaning into autonomous public transport buses. They’re 50% more expensive than a standard bus, but they’re needed, so the business case is strong.

Two 🇦🇺's in a European sea of 250 passionate #drone experts... Filipe and I representing #AAUS #UNSWCanberra #QUT and #CASA at the #EuropeanDroneForum2025 #EDF2025 with #UAVDACH and #AUVSI #XPONENTIAL Europe!

Proud to have represented #AAUS and #UNSWCanberra at the #AUVSI #XPONENTIAL Europe in #Dusseldorf!

Two great 🇦🇺 companies here exhibiting: #CubePilot and #HargraveTech - some of the best GNC and e-powertrain tech on the market!

Will AI take our jobs? An interesting paradox in bus driving…
I was at #XPONENTIAL Europe recently and took the opportunity to look into the #Rheinbahn AI buses being developed here in Europe.

3rd Coolest thing at #XPONENTIAL Europe: #CASEVAC drone from 🇩🇪’s #AVILUS. They’re already into 10’s of hours of flight test. Game-changing for Mass Casualty #MassCas events in the future.
