My mom asked if I could take my dog for a car ride instead of giving her a walk.

I don't know how to explain that my dog isn't trying to get to a specific destination as quickly as possible

A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.

It was reprehensible when people mocked condom usage at the height of the AIDS pandemic.

It is just as depraved to mock those wearing masks to reduce the spread of airborne viruses today.

Whenever someone takes any kind of step to protect public health, they should be applauded, not mocked.

They have come to the convention hoping to "break in" and then find themselves -- shocker! -- a "nobody in the book world." Yeah no shit! We all are! I have gently told guys like this a million times that it takes most of us *years* of hard work but they do not believe that could be true for them. +

While cleaning out my grandparents' things, I found notes from my Grandpa tracking his new medications and symptoms. I didn't know he liked to doodle in the margins. These pages look a lot like the ones in my notebooks.

Our broken child care system can learn a lot from New Mexico - the state that is leading the way in guaranteeing free child care for all.

There is no better rate of return than investing in our children.

The rest of the country should follow New Mexico’s lead.

This year I'm doing Grief Christmas where I clean out the house of my recently deceased grandparents and my mom asks me to fix her phone once an hour.

It remains wild to me that during the first trump administration there was a long debate over terminology after AOC (correctly) called border internment "concentration camps" and now having concentration camps is a core domestic policy.

The purpose of that stupid debate was to normalize the idea.

Republicans have decided that the student debt crisis is good actually and making sure millions of Americans are unable to pay back their student loans was a priority for them

I am allowed to check out 50 physical items from @freelibrary.bsky.social, but am only allowed to put 10 items on hold.

If I plan this out carefully, I will have a reason to visit the library every day it is open in 2026.

This is such a bad take I had to block the person no matter how many smart people I like follow them lmao

This is presumes that all creative output must be availed to the public. This is stupid. You do not owe everyone a behind-the-scenes look at your development if you don’t want to.

I don't understand why they are trying to make their platforms unusable.

Facebook used to be a place to get information and connect over shared experiences - and they have been slowly trying to kill that in the name of profit.

We don't need this. Literally nobody needs this. The only people pushing data centers are profiting off of them.

The 5th Investigators book "Braver and Boulder" By John Patrick Green feels like a conclusive ending to the series, but there are more books after this for me to check out and read from the library.

The series is fun and witty, and this book alludes to challenges with PTSD

I could have used the support of chill rooms when I was a kid. I was proud to support the program when I was a member of the school board and I am excited to see more schools participating now

‘Some kids don’t really have anyone to talk to or trust.’ Chill rooms fill that gap in Western Pa.
There are 50 chill rooms in K-12 schools across Allegheny, Washington, Bedford and Erie counties — scaled up from just two when the Allegheny Health Network’s (AHN) Chill Project launched in 2019.

We returned to the library the 4th book in the Investigators series by John Patrick Green. Filled with witty and whimsical wordplay, this book is about facing our fear, guilt, and shame and moving to a place of self-compassion and forgiveness. Also, there are giant ants.

In other words, if you're non-white, ICE/CBP will assume you are a non-citizen until you can prove otherwise, and they won't accept your Real ID as proof of citizenship.
Bovino, the man overseeing mass deportations, publicly declared that we must all have our papers on us, at all times, or we could be stopped, harassed, kidnapped, and detained, as they did with the man in this case, who is a US citizen.
