There are two funny things about living in the north of Paris:
1. You’re instantly notified when there’s a goal in the AFCON final
2. It’s impossible to tell if it was for Morocco 🇲🇦 or Senegal 🇸🇳

Hope everyone has a good night!

I watched a new movie I ended up not liking, instead of the AFCON final. Ending the weekend with a big mistake.

Typical United fan over here. We win one game today and I’m like, I think we could win the title. #MUFC

If they rehire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer between now and the end of January, I’m going to need some time to either brainstorm the right analogy to express my frustration or just time to be speechless and really, really annoyed. 😑 The men making these personnel decisions are too emotional. It’s chaos.

Charles X pushed French forces into Algeria in June 1830 because he was losing political support at home and annexing Algiers had been a long-term foreign policy goal for some French politicians. He’d hoped conquest would rally support for his reign. He was ousted weeks later in the July Revolution.

I ate a chocolate covered cherry someone had set in the part of the office where we normally put things to share, and now I’m panicking.

There are so few people in the office today that, if it wasn’t meant to be shared, it’s unlikely the suspicion won’t fall on me. I’m probably suspect no. 1 🙈

Every time I read/hear about Keir Starmer, my stupid brain goes to Kier Eagan. That’s never been helpful, but it is usually fun to suddenly reflect on Severance lore instead of whatever the news was talking about.

Happy Thanksgiving 🍽 from the Hexagon (France)

I celebrated on my own in the kitchen yesterday, and made gooey pumpkin chocolate brownies for the office today.

You’re the hero of your own story. A super villain is going to destroy the world. You team up with your evil nemesis to take him down…
Then they fail at the most basic task, and it’s like, why did you sell your soul to root for this person?

That’s me supporting City tonight against Newcastle. 😓

I was thinking the same thing. How can Alisson focus on the ball with this view behind it?
This shot of Anfield is absolutely gorgeous (unless you're a Liverpool fan, somehow) 😍

And Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 make history in a very exciting game against Denmark 🇩🇰 !

As a Christensen, it was stressful to see Rasmus Kristensen get a red, but fun to see Andreas Christensen assist Dorgu’s equalizer.

As a #MUFC fan, it was fun to see our guys do well (why did we let you leave, McTominay ? 😢)

Ran my first ever 10k today in the HOKA Paris Centre race. It took me a little over an hour (but only a little 😉), so I kept my brain busy with the @empirepoduk.bsky.social podcast ❤️.

Then I hiked up to Gare du Nord for a well-deserved thali and South Indian coffee.

I can’t get into Python GUI libraries. I tried a few today to solve a problem (displaying images and updating a DuckDB database), but ultimately whipped up a little Flask app instead. Browsers just seem easier and more straightforward. Still waiting for a library / Python project to change my mind.

As a Manchester United fan, it’s gonna sound weird… but I’m really hoping City win today.

Someone has to keep Arsenal from winning the title. In these trying times, we need to come together, and save the world from Arteta’s smugness. Sunderland did their duty yesterday 🫡

Always try to score 😕 #MUFC
A. Don’t count on later opportunities.
B. Even a blocked shot can rebound to another opportunity.
C. Don’t base your strategy on never conceding.

The only thing for certain in front of the net is that the team who doesn’t keep creating chances and trying will not score.

Dickens (pre-Christmas Carol / any big success), sitting for a portrait painted by a fellow activist in the 19th-century fight against child poverty, artist Margaret Gillie. Her story ❤️

The lost portrait of Charles Dickens
Margaret Gillies’s portrait of Dickens was missing for more than 150 years, until it turned up far from home. Lucinda Hawksley tells the story of this long-forgotten artist.

Since the new iOS, is the iPhone slower to unlock? Other latency issues seem improved. But unlocking… idk. Seems slowed down.
