Salt marsh harvest mouse researcher.
Wildlife biologist at WRA, Inc.

The most interesting thing about writing an article for The Wildlife Society’s Wildlife Professional magazine is learning who actually reads those things right away because those folks keep texting to congratulate me. 🤣

The Trump Admin has proposed a rule to rescind the definition of harm to include endangered species habitat. You have until May 19 to submit a comment to the Fed. Please do so.

Last night we saw a #GrayFox and #Raccoon walking across the road, seemingly #foraging together. We passed in the car and the fox came back to look at something in the road and the raccoon waited for him. Has anyone document these species foraging together in California yet? Video👇

What a privilege to play an in-person game of #FindThatLizard with @afroherper.bsky.social during her capstone plenary at the Western Section of @thewildlifesociety.bsky.social 2025 Annual Meeting!

Her insights into the wildlife field are so powerful. Thank you for joining us this week Dr. McGee!

Sometimes when I am going through old #research talks about @thesaltymouse.bsky.social to poach slides I am surprised at how nice some of my old presentations are, back when I had a lot of time to work on them. Maybe this is the year I start presentations early enough to make them badass again. 🤞

Hey #Mammalogists, I would like to submit a proposal for the 2025 Wildlife Society conference in Edmondton. I've been wanting to do a Symposium on conservation of peri-aquatic special-status mammals. Salt marsh harvest mouse, Amargosa vole, Perdido Key beach mouse, etc. Anyone interested? #TWS

Hey #hydrology folks! Seeking recommendations for in situ saline water flow/velocity monitoring equipment. Right now looks like Badger Meter is most common for research. I would appreciate any insights folks have about brands to favor or avoid.

Including a SMHM doing hydro stuff for visibility.

Sometimes I look at historic aerials and see all of the Bay Area cities build on fill, on top of marshes, and I cannot comprehend that they could source, transport, grade, and compact that much fill in the short time that those communities were built. Why can't we fill tidal restorations that fast?

King tides coupled with tornado-warning-strength west winds means our East Bay marshes are getting hammered with extraordinarily high tides, some of which are extremely vulnerable already (esp those on the Richmond Shoreline). Think good thoughts for our salty little endangered friends out there. 🧂🐁
