I am really excited to be a part of this team. We took our time writing this, putting a lot of thought into how our journeys as #NativesInSTEM were affected by different aspects of Universities and looking for commonalities across the world. I hope folks in academia appreciate this work.

I started a #NativesinSTEM starter pack. If you want to be added, tell me a little bit about yourself, including who your people are and what you study

@taramcallister.bsky.social I'll try to figure out how to turn this into a feed too.

Yeeeesssss!!! Long overdue.

New NSF rule requires tribal approval for research affecting their interests

Another reason to read this, it quotes #NativesInSTEM and highlights a town in my home region

I can't remember which program I used, but I put my major research areas & lab logo on the card. One side is blue and the other is white, 2 versions. Wish I left more room for people to write notes. Back has QR code for lab website and contact info. Lab logo by @blackmudpuppy.bsky.social

I'd be curious to know if there's a similar bsky list for Native and Indigenous scientists! 🧪
I made an easy to follow list of cool Native and Indigenous folks for Native American Heritage Month! Click "follow all" and share this post or you're a colonizer!

I recently saw an amazing Navajo rug at the National Gallery of Art. It looks abstract at first, but it is a detailed representation of the Intel Pentium processor. Called "Replica of a Chip", it was created in 1994 by Marilou Schultz, a Navajo/Diné weaver and math teacher. 1/n

@willowcoyote.bsky.social came to this Uni bc they said in the *offer letter* that they would support this Symposium. I didn't know something like this could exist as an incoming grad student, & this student had it in writing! I am so hopeful for the next gen of #NativesInSTEM!🧵

I survived this big crowd & talk. I had to laugh when a FLC student shouted “That’s my professor!” I got to share my science story & celebrate #NativesInSTEM. Students came up after to share that I was an inspiration❤️ #RepresentationMatters. Being at SACNAS reenergized me & my heart is full.

Thank you Corey! Which reminds me, I need to email you about a student who wants to do what you do because you have such a big impact on #NativesInSTEM

Yesterday we held the UW-Madison Indigenous Research Forum. I’m proud my postdoc Yowelunh McLester-Davis for organizing the conference, and to former Simcox lab undergrad Mariaya Jackson for winning second place award for a flash talk. My heart is full and ready to rise another day.

Hi! Please add me! But also, do you mind if I put those folks in my #NativesinSTEM starter pack? Mine isn't just the US, so it's a little broader than yours, but I'm missing, like, half of yours! go.bsky.app/4hoZMPV

#NativesinSTEM aren't here. A couple of us moved over but most Natives aren't here. I think there was potential early but the community grew too slow. I think people are worried their reach won't be as big here, and they're right. Until Bluesky really grows active users, adding features won't help.
