I am excessively proud of the deep interior work and excellent writing Tim has done in this piece, published today at Mockingbird. May we all learn to pay holy attention as Augustine and Tim have done.

Praying especially for the helpers — the doctors and therapists and chaplains and pastors and hospice workers and nonprofit staff and teachers and all who will bear witness. May the church rise up and care for her increasingly vulnerable neighbors. 💔🙏🏻

This week, Mayor Woods, City of Tempe & Maricopa County broke ground on the East Valley Housing, Health and Human Services Center—made possible by federal funds through our American Rescue Plan Act. This facility will serve unhoused and underserved Arizonans, helping them get back on their feet.

It’s 8:30pm in El Salvador. 238 men from Venezuela are beginning their fourth night in the terror prison where the Trump administration put them, in defiance of a judge’s order, without telling us who they are or whether they did anything more than run afoul of an ICE agent’s prejudiced hunch.

I personally witnessed the impact of USAID in Ethiopia, enjoying the beautiful hospitality of beneficiaries. I’ve also worked alongside countless aid workers who have shared stories of dignity, humanity, and hope.

1/ Despite the partial hold just handed down by a federal judge, I remain deeply concerned about Trump's freeze on federal grants & loans.

If this is allowed to take effect, it will raise costs on working families & make it harder for Arizonans to access services they rely on.

By the end of the second century, Roman officials were not particularly aware of the nuances of Christian teaching, but they did know what the word “bishop” meant—it meant someone who kept on agitating about the needs of the poor.
