This is the version of the post that everyone needs to see. And all you readers/authors despairing of non-comprehension, etc, we are gaining new fans of fantasy and SF. It might not be the fantasy or SF you personally read, but they're reading and buying where they weren't before.
It hits different reading this whole thread.

This is all I have thought about for the last week. Literally the sexiest, best gift you can give me is not making me do the work.

On my 4th free trial with Audible (they have the exclusive audiobook for book club this week). Same account, same email. I feel like I'm stealing from them at this point 😎

Let me assure you that if someone is sending you an email from an office-specific email, they do not want you to reply to their personal email.

Yeah, taking the suggested/FY feeds away. Bad for me. I don't need to know everything.

What's the easiest way to see if Wake Up Dead Man is playing near me? I want to watch it on their screen.

For the love of victims and whoever else (me), USE ALT TEXT ON IMAGES SO I CAN MUTE THIS SHIT.

I know how to make my favorite drinks at home. Not having my weekend easy breakfast (or Monday office-commute-breakfast) will be an inconvenience but that's minor to their demands for fair treatment, reasonable hours and staffing, and better wages. I only need to plan ahead while they fight.
As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

I have almost nothing on my christmas list for my over-gifter mother to go on, or anyone else. Everything I want/need is major home purchases. More than a little tempted to put those on and see what happens.

my point exactly
No no no begs every archivist. You are never going to be able to find anything. Please don’t start using emojis in file names. Who asked for this? What fresh hell is next?

Where's that LeGuin quote that was going around last week, about commodified fantasy?
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Just distilling something so fundamental
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

The two most radicalizing things I did in college were read The Double Helix and (separately) write a report about eugenics in America. Science can super fuck you up. And not all scientists are equipped to understand why. We are all human, after all. There is very little different between us.
November 7, 2025 at 9:05 PM
This is the one to repost. Don't let history exalt this eugenicist without immediately stating his horrible views.
Watson was a racist who, "near the end of his life, faced condemnation and professional censure for offensive remarks, including saying Black people are less intelligent than white people"

If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

Narrator: Mississippi is not blue.
Johnson: What happened last night was blue states and blue cities voted blue. We all saw that coming. No one should read too much into last night's election results. Off year elections are not indicative of what's to come. That’s what history teaches us.

Every time I learn about some major socialist leader of the past, they're from the Midwest.

Someone needs to do something with that.
