Really enjoyed a weekend full of training in Singing for Lung Health and Sing To Beat Parkinson's. Really interesting to see where there is and isn't crossover in the approaches and to start planning to set up some groups in the Glasgow area!

Naidheachd brònach - disappointing that we can't expand and develop choral performance at the Mòd. Protecting tradition is very important, but so is ensuring culture and language develop and stay relevant. There is space for both.

There were plans to relax some of the rules around one of the event's most popular competitions - but this has been abandoned.

At the ALT conference today leading a drop-in lunchtime choir session. What a joy!

I've led a few of these & everyone really seems to get a lift out of them alongside the busy conference programme - I TOTALLY recommend adding these as networking/wellbeing sessions

Had a wonderful day running a workshop and stall on menopause & the voice at Stirling Science Festival! Loved seeing some competitive couples going head to head on the Truth or Falsetto game & chating with folks about the various effects of menopause on their voice.

I've spoken a lot about this - I noticed so many uni lecturers teaching online during COVID, using their voices differently and tiring themselves out. The instinct to use the voice changes in a large room, we use our bodies differently.

In #MenopauseAwarenessMonth I'm revisiting some of the research articles we have on #menopause and the voice. Some interesting results below in this article on HRT and vocal range.

#voice #singing #choir
Interesting to see these range changes during menopause. The study found singers experienced a drop in average high pitch range during perimenopause, but that this returned to its original range post-menopause for singers on HRT, and dropped lower for those not on HRT.

"If you’re a teacher or in any one of these professions that uses the voice a lot, it can actually mean a difference between taking days off of work and being productive or not”

Great to finally see more research into this. For support and resources: www.kathleencronie.com/menopause-si...
During menopause, estrogen levels decrease, which changes vocal fold tissue. Women’s voices get deeper, hoarser and can be harder to project. Teachers and voice over actors are especially impacted. Actors become less desirable for voice over work.
