For too long 1950s born women have been fighting for justice, I've met with local WASPI campaigners many times, raised their concerns in Parliament & written to the Chancellor calling for action.

Today's announcement is disappointing but my support for 1950s born women remains absolutely unchanged

Glad to see more people joining my call to boycott the World Cup 👇

Football is a great unifier and as a lifelong football fan I do not take the decision to boycott the World Cup lightly.

Good news for homeowners

🏬We’re capping ground rents at £250 a year in England & Wales - saving some households £hundreds
❌New leasehold flats are being banned
✅Current leaseholders will get the right to switch to commonhold
🧾We’ll make service charges more transparent

Promise made, promise kept.

Very encouraged by the report and draft Resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for a ban on conversion practices, which aligns with #HumanRights standards. @kateosbornemp.bsky.social

What we need is a campaign to retain the seat & return a Labour MP

Labour members in Gorton & Denton must be able to pick their candidate from a full shortlist

We do not need factionalism before party - excluding Andy Burnham if he wants to stand would be a mistake & very weak

A day in Parliament life 👇

Every day is a whirlwind, This doesn't cover the half of it, but here are some highlights from the 20th Jan:

Labour is investing £1.5 BILLION into our arts, museums, libraries & heritage sites over the next 5 years

Cervical cancer is almost wholly preventable - yet every day in the UK two people lose their lives to cervical cancer & nine more will receive a life-changing diagnosis

Don't put your cervical screening appointment off - it really can save lives & only takes 5 minutes

Pleased to have joined The Criminal Bar Association in Parliament this week on their #JusticeNeedsJuries campaign alongside my colleague Karl Turner MP

We need to take action to end delays in the criminal justice system but removing the right to a trial by jury is not the way to do it.

I have been inundated with emails from constituents about banning social media for under 16’s.

This week Govt set out plans for a consultation & I welcome that consultation.
I will be holding events in Jarrow & Gateshead East to seek your views, but welcome all emails & comments with your thoughts.

Trump’s a misogynist, his hateful, xenophobic and dangerous rhetoric was allowed to go unchecked and like all bullies his behaviour got worse.

I have joined Colleagues in writing to the Chancellor urging her enhance the finance inclusion bill & expand credit unions to offer more affordable credit & better savings to people across the UK without the high risk and high cost that come with the payday loan industry

In my latest Shields Gazette column I talked about our brilliant local businesses and the support they give the wider community, from community groups, to our charities, to sponsoring our football clubs - we come together with a vibrant local economy delivering enormous social value.

Happy Orthodox New Year to all who are celebrating in Jarrow and Gateshead East and across the UK

As I made clear repeatedly to constituents and the Government, mandatory digital ID was something I was fully opposed to as policies like this are ineffective and hit minorities, the poorest and the digitally excluded hardest. As well as being a serious infringement on our civil liberties.

There is no room in international sport or our international communities for such a clear disregard for human rights & international law

I'll continue pressing FIFA to remove USA from the upcoming World Cup to send a clear message that the international community condemns the US Presidents actions.

❄️Cold weather payment❄️

Residents alerted me to an error on the DWP website regarding the weather station that is named for Jarrow & Gateshead East.

Our weather station is Morpeth, Cockle Park & has been since winter 23-24.

Great to see Hebburn APCL A&P making waves in the media – welcoming its largest ship for drydocking in over 20yrs!
In Jarrow and Gateshead East, we have always been at the heart of shipping industry and it is brilliant to see our maritime industry recognised and making history yet again

I have signed my name to the motion demanding FIFA expel the USA from this year's World Cup.

Last year I led a successful campaign to stop Trump speaking in UK Parliament because of his misogyny, racism and xenophobia and his previous comments on women, refugees and torture.

Excellent news that our landmark Employment Rights Bill has passed both Houses.

As a Trade Unionist I am proud of Labour's New Deal for Working People and the work we have done with unions to strengthen protections at work and putting power back into the hands of working people✊

Horrifying attack on Bondi Beach.

My deepest sympathies go out to the families of the victims and all those impacted by the news coming out of Sydney.

At a time when Jewish communities around the world are gathering together to celebrate Chanukah this is just so awful and upsetting.

It’s totally devastating that some groups and orgs have been pushed into such a position. Excluding our trans siblings is a backwards step. One day we will look back at this period in time and realise, what many of us know already. It’s utterly shameful and wrong.
