Super excited to share my first preprint with Katherine Duncan and Morgan Barense (@barense.bsky.social) -- "Memory strength at reactivation, not memory age, governs prediction error driven updating of naturalistic event memory"! 🧠🎉https://osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/q9rkn_v1

Thrilled to see this paper out! It's the culmination of a project begun in the depths of the pandemic with Sabrina Karjack and @zoengo.bsky.social . We continue our exploration of how children generalize when their episodic memory is not yet mature.

The dependence of children’s generalization on episodic memory varies with age and level of abstraction - Nature Communications
Children’s ability to generalize from episodic memories varies by both age and the level of abstraction. Here, the authors show that lower level generalization increasingly depends on episodic memory with age, whereas higher level generalization shows no such relationship.

New preprint! How do we integrate new information into prior knowledge? We find that existing knowledge enables rapid new learning but that interleaved replay during sleep promotes integration of new and old information. Modeling suggests a sleep context suppression mechanism.

My lab’s latest paper, with @vpmurty.bsky.social. Memory for a scary real-world event (a haunted house) is reflected in the “authenticity” of expressed memories, but listeners mistakenly think accuracy is reflected in how “analytic” the expressed memory is - oops!

Linguistic properties of memory expression differentially relate to accuracy, specificity, and perceived veracity - Psychonomic Bulletin & Review
When communicating our memories to others, we use specific language to represent and express those memories. However, whether the linguistic properties associated with memory expression, such as commu...

Happy to share our latest preprint, wrapping up an exciting project with Dr. Omri Raccah, Phoebe Chen, Dr. David Poeppel, and Dr. Alexa Tompary!
What semantic relationships have you been using to test how prior knowledge influences new memories? Turns out it matters! Thematic associations are more likely to boost memory but also generate false memories (relative to taxonomic ones). osf.io/preprints/ps...

So happy to see this published! Lila and I looked at how memory representations of sequences became integrated over time through their shared predictive cues. We had fun thinking about the different aspects of systems consolidation that may play a role in this transformation
