Wrote about the week. How the shooter's ID didn't appear to matter to ppl. How the discourse takes place in very same spaces that incubate/perpetuate hate & violence. How shooters now know that their acts will be flattened, analyzed, argued over & amplified. How all of this feels so dark & poisonous
Something Is Very Wrong Online
Our political conversations take place in very same spaces that incubate and perpetuate unthinkable violence.

After her hearing at 26 Federal Plaza, a woman was detained and escorted toward the stairwell. Her husband, confused and in shock, was guided toward the exit. Minutes later, he broke down in the elevator. They entered together, but he left alone. This happens here daily. #ICE

The Supreme Court bans affirmative action in university admissions but is okay with racial profiling on American streets. That pretty much sums up white supremacy--heads I win, tails you lose, all legal.

We go on.
We do not turn back.
The world becomes so small we can fit it into a handshake,
into a glance cast across the room,
a finger raised to the lips.
Everyone’s fingers are crossed behind their backs.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

For decades, both parties allowed this overreach to happen. Remember extraordinary rendition? Bush started this “homeland security” nightmare and not enough people objected, so here we are.
Yes, as I note above. And that's just the arrest authority for "immigration officers" who are part of ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations.

ICE Homeland Security Investigations agents have much broader authorization to carry out criminal arrests.
Wait ice has the authority to arrest US citizens?
