Alysa Liu says she’s keeping Promise for the rest of the season. She still plans to do the Lady Gaga program this season but she is waiting on the final music cut but the choreography is done. She will be doing MacArthur Park again at Skate America. ⛸️

⛸️ This weekend at #SCI25, we heard what it sounds like when skaters -- with official permission -- use music generated by A.I. In short: not great. There's a good story here: www.patreon.com/posts/mrazko...

Back in skating coverage: Asked U.S. Figure Skating High Performance Director Justin Dillon about if/how planning is impacted by both Christina Carreira & Alisa Efimova's citizenship questions.

The short answer: it's not. Both teams are still amassing "data points" towards Olympic team selection.

You know, I have a list of songs I wish ice dancers would skate to, but near the top is totally a Canadian ice dance team doing an epic Gordon Lightfoot free dance. The possibilities! I know Kurt Browning has skated to his music, but think about it! It would be epic.

I wrote about something not sports-related for the Ipswich Local News this week. GASP! Me, a theatre writer? I did my best.

Alisa Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov skated their short program to “Cloak and Dagger” at Thursday night’s Summer Sizzler.
It is only a two week old program, as their previous new short program got not great feedback from officials.

At the Summer Sizzler, Maxim Naumov skated his new short program to Nocturne No. 20 by Frédéric Chopin choreographed by Benoit Richaud. It is one of the best programs Naumov has ever had. It was phenomenally skated. For me, the best program of the night.

Jimmy Ma did his Firebird short program at the Summer Sizzler. Omitted the combo but did solo jumps clean. Electric footwork and huge crowd reaction.

Emily Chan and Spencer Howe performed their short program at the US Figure Skating Summer Sizzler at The Skating Club of Boston. Lyrical style, lots of promise. Looking for a good full season after a few seasons of injury issues.

Annika Chao was getting into Reese Rose’s free skate Adele medley at the boards, clapping along and bopping her head. Whatever keeps you loose for your own free skate! #CranberryCup

Where did Kaya Tiernan come from? She was fantastic just now at Cranberry Cup in junior women. Clean skate, well-composed program. Went into the lead.
August 9, 2025 at 9:55 PM
Sorry for the delay - phone was running out of battery and had to save it for an interview.
Here are some notes on the rest of the #CranberryCup men's SPs:
August 9, 2025 at 7:34 PM
Stephen Gogolev landed his triple Axel and solo jump in his short program, but fell in the first jump of what was supposed to be his combo and also fell in footwork. Into fourth with a 67.22 with about half the field to go.
August 9, 2025 at 5:47 PM
Aleksandr Selevko’s Kiss SP is great. He is committed to the choreography and it is sharp. Popped first jump of combo, but otherwise was good. Also the costume involves velvet jeans. They were cool looking. This SP works and goes into the lead with 76.63. #CranberryCup
August 9, 2025 at 5:13 PM
Seen at Cranberry Cup: Skate Canada High Performance Director Mike Slipchuk chatting with US coach Tammy Gambill…former US champion Scott Davis watching the first group of men’s SPs…92 Olympic gold medalist Victor Petrenko chatting with others on the concourse.
August 9, 2025 at 4:48 PM
Isabeau Levito - new SP very much in a similar style to Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The choreographic touches are spot on with the music. Lots of forward lean on the opening jump of her combo, but lands it. Clean, goes into first with a 70.69.
August 9, 2025 at 3:00 PM
Sonja Hilmer have yourself a day!
That was the most entertaining and creative short program.
Landed all of her jumps, her spins had features galore - including going up onto her toe-pick - and then she broke out a footwork section with skate sounds.
