If you're rich and powerful enough, rich and powerful Republicans will ignore your crimes -- including child molestation.

I want people to understand that in my youth, a youth that happened somewhere between the youth of Epstein, Trump, Maxwell, ex-Prince Andrew, et al & that of their victims, the term "jail bait" was framed as a compliment.

the specific language of “break bread with” and “visit him in prison” is so striking to me, used in condemnation this way
DHS includes a bunch of false and defamatory statements in their tweet about Kilmar Abrego Garcia as they prepare to send him to Uganda.

Republicans took the day off while all democrats showed up to work. Could you see a republican showing students around just as a nice gesture?
A bus of Bronx middle schoolers pulled up to the Capitol this morning for a long-planned field trip just a few hours after the government shut down.

All Capitol tours were cancelled as the guides can’t work in shutdown.

So I escorted them in myself and gave them a personal tour. They were great!

We can, in fact, oppose ALL political violence, no matter the form, source, or reasoning.

Genocide (& supporting it) is bad.
Ethnic cleansing is bad.
Murdering people in a boat off Venezuela is bad.
Murdering people for Existing While Black is bad.
Shooting someone whose views are repellant is bad.

This. Times a thousand. Again and again.
rarely have I more acutely felt the dynamic by which Dems are held responsible for the rhetoric of every random left-leaning person on the internet and Republicans are not even asked to answer for their own personal words

Even worse if you're dual career.
It is very, very hard to move academic jobs, and it gets harder the more senior you become. Doubly hard if you have a dual career situation.

After years of the sneering I've received over working where I work, believe me, if people could just up and change jobs, we would.
I'm a Columbia PhD. I'm pissed at Columbia. My friends who teach there are furious.

But it's really not simple. Practically every university in the country has a hiring freeze or is only making limited hires. Even in "good years" a vanishingly small # of people can easily find another position.

I started a post in January, and finished it today. Which kind of lets you know how my mental health (not great Bob!) went this winter. Thanks to @lyz.bsky.social and @theferocity.bsky.social for helping me get some initial ideas going.

The top 1% evade $163 billion in taxes each year.

With the $45 million being spent on the president's parade here’s what that money could do for veterans instead:

House 3k veterans for an entire year in transitional housing

Provide full PTSD treatment for 3.75k veterans for a year

Deliver job training to 9k veterans through 12-week programs

Today someone I know who has fought for low wage workers his whole life was detained while observing an ICE raid. David Huerta is a citizen and a proud Angeleno. He must be released now. If this can happen to David, it can happen to anyone. It’s unacceptable.
An American citizen and Los Angeles native, @seiucalifornia @seiuusww President David Huerta was injured and detained when ICE terrorized a working neighborhood. We demand his immediate release!
Let’s be clear: ICE injured and detained the president of SEIU California for peacefully observing.

ICE picked the wrong side. The wrong state. The wrong person. and the wrong union. David Huerta stood up. And now 750,000 SEIU workers are standing up behind him.

The attack in Boulder yesterday is concerning for a host of reasons. It not only points to an escalation of antisemitic violence, but will almost certainly be weaponized by the administration to intensify crackdowns on immigrants, activists, journalists, and academics.

Just bad all around.
