It has been hard to follow the developments in US (climate) science- thinking of the people affected and the science missed out on.

The latest cuts end the NOAA GFDL/PrincetonUni program I personally worked in. It was fundamental in my career, breaks my heart 💔🌎.

Excited to see Dr Henrique Goulart defend his PhD on Monday.

He explored methods to develop physical storylines connecting weather to societal impacts. Historic extremes in different settings, due to random climate variability or climate change, can be used to test adaptation strategies.

🧨 The last paper of Henrique Goulart written as part of his PhD was published this week. He showcases how storylines can be used to evaluate adaptation strategies at the local scale 🌀 🌊, complementing traditional climate risk assessments for informed decision-making.

Exploring coastal climate adaptation through storylines: Insights from cyclone Idai in Beira, Mozambique
Goulart et al. explore the effectiveness of storylines in evaluating adaptation strategies for extreme climate events. They highlight how these narrative-based approaches can complement traditional climate risk assessments by showcasing the consequences of each adaptation strategy selected, quantifying residual impacts and testing robustness across different scenarios. This research offers insights for policymakers and communities, emphasizing the importance of integrating narrative approaches in climate adaptation planning to make informed decisions that better protect communities.
