That Lloyds bank ad which estimates your age…. Yesterday it got me about right. Today, I’ve had a shave and done my hair. It’s knocked 10
Literally 10 years off me. Might be a while before age estimation tech is foolproof.

I think we all agree that Andrew shouldn’t be able to call himself Mountbatten either and should revert to Battenberg.

I thought absolutely nobody from the cabinet would have a chance in this election. This is an exceptional showing for Bridget. And the fact that both candidates were fairly moderate and the ‘leadership’ candidate nearly won a sign that the Labour has substantially changed from the late 2010s
Lucy Powell wins deputy leadership
Lucy Powell - 87,407 votes (54%)
Bridget Phillipson - 73,536 votes (46%)

A fair bit closer than predicted

In the last 24 hours I have been invited to speak to an event by post and had a large organisation ring my office landline to ask to for a ticket to one of our events. Hello 1993.

I saw @jim.londoncentric.media the evening he conducted this interview and he had the faraway look of someone who had seen things beyond normal comprehension.

It doesn’t disappoint. Mafia Snails….

The snail farmer of London, his mafia friends, and a £20m vendetta against the taxman
Terry Ball runs elaborate mollusc-based tax avoidance schemes that are costing London councils millions of pounds. Yet when London Centric tracks him down, an even stranger story emerges.

How does World Economist Day inspire the next generation of economists?

Well, first let us assume that economists are inspired by world economist day…
October 12th is World Economist Day!

From guiding policy to studying the forces behind growth, economists help us make sense of complex systems and improve lives.

Today we ask you to donate to The Sadie Collective to empower the next generation of economists: tinyurl.com/sadie-wed

Feef Fife Fo Fum
Great to meet Gordon Brown in Fife to see the work of the Big House Multibank.

Ending child poverty is Labour’s moral mission: it’s why I entered politics and it’ll be my top priority as deputy leader.

This by @samfr.bsky.social is both thoughtful and thought provoking on why Labour still goes after its ‘reform curious’ voters despite it being hard. But some thoughts in response.

When the global financial crisis hit my main reaction was ‘oh shit what happened after the 1929 crash…’

So as a Jew and a child of Holocaust survivors I don’t feel less safe these days because I haven’t felt safe for decades.

Chelsea beating Liverpool today sends a real message - you can’t just buy success in the Premier League. You need a team with a history, with a community spirit.

got fed up of paying for £ glasses and decided to go for Specsavers. Advertising works. Months later I am sat in something more overcrowded than a doctors waiting room, waiting for hours to see someone who can finally give me the glasses which were no cheaper than the last pair I bought elsewhere.

My Granny who I had met just once at that point and lived in South Africa sent me a VHS tape of this National Geographic documentary about Jane Goodall when I was maybe 6 years old. It had a profound impact on me and I watched it over and again. Thinking of both of them. youtu.be/Bp83FDSs-cg?...

Support from Belle and Sebastian for Bridget Phillipson in the deputy leadership election.
