Absolutely lost it at the “You may have missed this subtle detail” reveal 3/4 through the vid. Always considered the skeptic framing misguided at best, willfully ignorant at worst, but this misread of Scooby-Doo has been unmasked as the hoax it always was. A must-watch for skeptic & believer alike.
New video! 🚨 We're debunking a common pop culture myth about Scooby-Doo, and also there's something in there about ideology or whatever. Happy Halloween! 🎃

The idea that Scooby-Doo was a paragon of skeptic values never quite jived with my memory of the show but I also didn’t remember it well enough to articulate why (other than: for skeptics, these people sure spend a lot of time worrying about ghosts and monsters). This person pulls up the receipts:

“Political economy as a science committed suicide around the end of the 19th century. Yet it refuses to die, and under the name of “economics” it continues to shamble about. It presents itself as an uncanny phantasm of its former self.”

“Economists still engage with questions of policy and the role of the state in just the same way the old political economists used to. Except now, that is not undergirded by a genuine attempt at a scientific understanding of society.”

it has always felt like Brando and De Niro got more praise for The Godfather films than Pacino did, and it's honestly insane. Al is kinda acting circles around them! He's got SO much more to do!

when i was like 16, my brother and i were walking on treadmills at the gym as a warm up, and this movie (The Frog Prince, 1986) came on, and we literally skipped our regularly scheduled workout and just walked on the treadmills for a full 90 something minutes so we could watch the whole thing

Wallerstein locates Robert Peel and England's success during the world revolution of 1848 as the moment when the world's major governments realized they could/should be using reforms to neutralize radicalism.
